I did a google search for eliteinvestment.net, before I say anything.

I got an email from eliteinvestment.net saying the following:
now i googled this, and people are saying not to do it because they got the same exact email. has anybody done business with this guy before? Some say they got paid, some didnt. I think if there going to make me get it appraised by some company he recommends im not doing it. Im not going to do it but otherwise i will go for it only if we use escrow or he makes a down payment. the domain he is interested in is a premium one tho so i dont no what to think...

They'll ask you to get an appraisal at a company of their choice and then you never hear for them again. Of course, after you pay their appraisal company.

this is definitely scam, ive received 2 emails from them already, they are more commonly known as appraisal scam, they will ask you to have your name appraised (from their supposed trusted site) and when you do, they'll be gone with the wind!

There was a thread just like this one two days ago.
It seemed as though the person claiming to have received a payment in that instance was
in on the scheme. The same thread poster admitted to posting the same thread on other
forums/websites. So it may appear as though several people are claiming to have been paid,
when in fact it might be just one or two or a few people posting under different names in
    different forums.

Basically, if you were not planning on getting an appraisal, do not do so on their account.
If you were planning on it, then you have nothing to lose...just don't do it on their terms.
They WILL recommend an appraisal from a specific appraiser or two, in a "sly", non-direct fashion.
If you still think they are genuine buyers and you want to go ahead with the deal,
try recommending a well known appraisal service of your own...maybe Moniker, Sedo etc...
See how they will react to that.

Whatever you do, do NOT accept a payment directly via PayPal...or any other service
    that has no chargeback protection.

glad im not crazy, i think that post got deleted, i couldnt find it.

also, they will recommend 3 services most of the time, sedo, afternic (or other big ones) and their own (which will be cheapest). that is how they sucker people, offer cheapest service. they often use fake forum postings too as proof of their service.

I believe you are right about the thread getting the axe.
The poster and the person recommending the appraisal (which all seemed like the same person or a team) also seem to have been banned.
BIG HINT: Although the thread my not exist here, it was indeed cached by Google!
    ;)

Hey Jdock1 - they usually hit you with a high offer, even for junk domains.
I once had a domain I was going to delete...it wasn't even worth keeping or giving away...a similar appraisal scammer offered $6500!
That is the premise that "justifies" them asking for an appraisal.

well sometimes a seemingly junk domain can be worth gold to an end-user, however always do your assignment and check backgrounds about the company or people that you are dealing with, it also helps to ask on forums or other channels that can give you a decent advice, and finally use safe methods of payment like escrow, sedo or other gateways that can ensure the transaction is safe for both buyer and seller

    Hi there SerialCoder.

So true what you said about "junk domains". One mans trash is another mans
treasure...but this one was truly junk, with obvious issues and all.

haha, if you said so, then that would be absolutely suspicious to begin with, they probably just pick domains randomly, and use whois or other sorts of info that the domainers left behind so that legitimate buyers can easily contact them

I also think it is advisable not to click on links in e-mails such as those.

On an unrelated note...SerialCoder, you never sleep. Perhaps we should team up and create an insomniac club...:D
