Post your screen shots and text dumps of Why YOU Hate Vista! I am working along, need help with a program and hit the help button.... after going though the Obligatory "Do you really, really, really want to do this dialog system, it gives me the following message:"
You hate vista because of this? What program were you running? That's not even entirely vista's fault.
It was a legacy program necessary to run my business, that was working on a previous version. Why should a HELP system break? It was working (and the program itself) runs fine. This is just the last straw! How is this not Vista's fault? They deliberately chose to break backwards compatiblity. That's EXACTLY Vista's fault.
If you knew how to set compatibility settings everything would work fine. This isn't vista's fault, this is another "dumb user" who blames vista for his own stupidity. FYI, you can also disable the prompts as of SP1 without having to do registry edits.
I've been in IT 25 years, I'm not a dumb user I just don't have time to screw around with it when I have real work to do. There was no good reason to deliberately break this type of compatibility and make me waste my time chasing it down. The tool should serve me, I should not serve the tool. Just to be clear ... it's NOT that I CANT fix it. It's NOT that I DON'T KNOW HOW to fix it. I hate vista becasue I have to waste my time fixing it in the first place.
It's a relatively new operating system.. do you really think Microsoft would take the time to make sure EVERYTHING was compatible? They didn't deliberately do it just to piss off some cranky "IT" person. If that's really the reason you hate Vista... well that's just sad.
I wasn't cranky BEFORE vista was forced on me. And yes, it's irresponsbile to break backwards compatibilty. And yes, it was deliberate. I've heard MS personell say it in meetings I've had with them, and it's in their "Green book" on software development. It's called planned obsolesence, it's a business model that forces old models of a product to be obsolete so new models can be sold. It was made famous by the US auto industry in the late 60s and led to the replacement of US autos by Asian imports.
I think you're probably a hardware expert. I would be surprised if you actually knew anything about software's effect on society. WinHelp32.exe has been around a long time. Why didn't they get rid of it in XP? Or 2000? Because it was useful. And WinHelp32.exe isn't the only useful thing that Microsoft decided to remove...
It was on a new machine, that was designed for vista... but, hey, it's a nice sentiment ... "Just spend more money to do the same job you used to do, but a different way because the old way is broke, so also spend more time re-learning your job ... oh, yes, and since you're the IT guy, spend more time re-training people .... " Yeah, new hardware will help that a lot, thanks for the suggestion, I'm sure the hardware vendors love you ... Seriously, sorry for the sarcasm, but I really just needed a thread to vent in.
Why I HATE you HATE Vista ! Vista works excellent, actually, with SP1, it is more stable and actually faster than XP - that's a fact. I have used it since it came out, and I haven't experienced ONE problem with it. Drivers is no longer a problem (but I haven't experienced any), yesterday I plugged my 4 year old Logitech webcam into my Vista laptop, and Vista found and installed the drivers without any problems. Actually, on my XP, I had to install the bundled software and drivers in order to get it working. UAC can EASILY be disabled (I've done it). Maybe Vista got some "child problems" when it came out, but they're all fixed now, and it seems like that people have forgot what it was like, when XP came out. Actually people didn't like it. Now you HAD to use 512 MB of ram (WHOOA!), and not just 256 MB that they was used to. A new user interface (LUNA), which people didn't like.
I have been using Vista for over a year, yet to find any annoying problem. Frankly I did not find a need to disable UAC so its still on.
Hello, Really I do not like Vista, I have upgraded to 2GB of Memory, and it is running ok, but when I re-install Windows XP, wow! Big different, right now it is like a airplane, believe me, there are a hugh direfrence. My 2 cents, Jakomo
Why get vista now? The replacement for Vista is already in the works. I never used vista but this whole thing reminds me of the problems users had with millennium. Millennium didn't last long and neither will Vista. I certainly wouldn't buy that OS or buy a computer designed to run that OS. It sounds like a major waste of money and time. Meanwhile XP is still working fine, why change if you don't have to? Microsoft needs to replace vista just because of the fact it has such a terrible reputation. The one step forward 3 steps back mentality is typical of Microsoft.
Two things that I hate this operating system. It occupies large disk space It has compatible issues like anti virus programs.
