Why did I get an Infraction???

I posted a congrats to encourage someone in this thread:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=97138

And my post(s) got erased and was given an infraction without explanation.

Maybe the giver of this infraction needs to read the entire thread and see why I posted it. Someone else was bashing the user, who PUBLICALLY announced his diet and I CONGRAT'd him, and was given an infraction without even being contacted with a reason.

Please explain this as it is frustrating when you try to mind your posts, only to be punished.

    Thanks,

    Shane

I received an infraction today for posting a "duplicate" thread :(

Just out of curiousity, can you see the "Infractions: 0/1 (1)" under my post count? I have not noticed anyone else that has this, so I'm wondering if everyone can see mine?

    Whew, that's good to know

Since I conduct a lot of business through DP, I didn't want people to question my rep because of a silly infraction :)

I got two because I reposted the same post thinking it was a glitch on my end (it was erased) that it didn't go through.

Oh well, maybe some day a moderator will follow-up on this with an personal explanation

Yeah, it seems like they can be too picky about certain things

Oh well, I'm just happy to know that infractions aren't visible since they last for several months

I'm not that worried about it since at the beginning of this thread I explained that I got the infraction for posting a "duplicate" thread

The only reason I was worried about it is that I thought everyone could see "Infractions: 0/1 (1)" under my post count. I thought this could be a problem because there was no visible explanation for the infraction

Bottom line, I realized it is not nearly as big a deal as I originally thought :)

The only time it becomes a "bit deal" is when you get enough that the system automatically bans you.

I agree, but I'm not planning on doing anything to get any more infractions. I will heed this first warning.

Oh, and some infractions are only warnings. Like when you hijack a guys domain sale (daft though his domain might be) with chatter.

is there's set of forbidden activity that will give you infractions?

    so far i know is

    duplicate thread
    bumping own thread
    bump really old thread
    thread hijack
    start thread in wrong forum.

also, let say i donno the rule and i violate 10 time in a row, will i get 10 of it. i know it depends on mod, but still would like to know if i will get hit 10 time if i violate 10 time in a row and get my instant death penalty

Getting a post reported so the mods have to read a lame post. It's a simple as that.

The points vary, the "life" of the infraction varies. Once a mod decides to give and infraction they can only choose the type of infraction and then to a) give a yellow card warning (0 points) or b) give a red card infraction.

Would be good to have a thread posted by mods or Shawn explaining how the infractions are issued, how long they last, etc.

This infraction thing just appeared from one day to the other and no one explained anything about it

I agree, considering too many infractions can lead to your account being blocked, it would be nice to know ALL the details

Yeah, but how are you applying it here? What causes an infracion in this forum? What value does each infraction have in this forum? What can get you banned? How many infracions until you get banned? How long do infraction points last?

Don't know if it is information restricted only to mods or something like that, if it is, then just a general explanation of what causes an infraction would be useful
