Getting traffic from adwords is extremely easy, but how that traffic converts for you depends on so many factors. Starting from landing page to right placement.

Yeah, as was said, you want to be placing your ads in front of the people that you want to click on them.

Generally, a lot of people can click on your ad for the wrong reason, making you pay for nothing. I think this is partially because people don't really bother to read and think about what they are reading.

I've also been playing with both CPM and CPC ads. I am finding the cost per "conversion" a lot cheaper with CPC ads, but it also seems to be more difficult to get the traffic I want without increasing my bids or going for popular terms that won't "convert".

As you can tell, I'm not getting into any particulars at all, but if you start small, with low campaign limits, you'll start to see patterns. Set up a campaign for CPM and CPC. Go to places that your own customers/users visit in large numbers and see if they are running Adsense. If so, figure out the keywords they seem to be showing and copy their domain name. Add them to your CPC or CPM campaign as appropriate.

When you've been doing the above for a while, you notice that some CPM sites don't convert at all... lower your bid or remove them completely from your list. Also, run variations on your ads and see which ones are better at bringing a user to site in the right frame of mind to "convert".

Really, it's all about getting as much as you can from your money. It probably won't be cheap, but if you are wise you can spend a tenth of the money and probably get the same results as somewhat who's hooked Adwords up directly to their bank account.

    Good luck!
