Why is our website unranked and ignored? HELP!

    Hi,

We are looking for some help/advice from an experienced web designer/promoter/marketeer. We need a diagnostic from a PRO.

We recently launched a royalty free music library www.beatsuite.com in October 2004. Although the site has good content and has been built by experienced designers and programmers it seems to be getting snubbed even ignored by nearly all search engines. The site has been designed to be search engine friendly and much effort was contributed to this factor.

We have paid programmes at Google and Overture and this is fine, however we need some natural rankings. Although we rank well for our company name any related keywords show no response. My pagerank is still 0 despite having many inward links (150/200) from industry related websites.

I know that it takes takes time to establish a good PR however my old flash site had a much better PR with little or no links/promotion.

We use Advanced Web Ranking (OSX) for analysising our rankings each week although I know it is not 100% reliable, its seems fairly accurate.

We regularly use diagnostic tools to check our website for any basic wrongs. We have absolutely stretched our minds on this subject and cannot see one reason why we are not at least being ranked for certain keywords. I am not expecting No.1 rankings but there is surely something wrong when a site like this is not being ranked at all for any keyword!

Please help, we are somewhat stuck and confused and do not know here to go!

Things we have done to promote the site.

    registered with DMOZ (listing active).
    registered with Yahoo (paid inclusion).
    Submiited to Google.
Weekly link exchanges to industry related websites.
    Submitted to many business portal/directories.
Learnt and studied website promotion from well known resource websites such as searchenginewatch and wilsonweb.com.
Regularly use online forums to post my signature on forums that rank for our keywords.
Submitted free sounds to the most popular sites with links back to my site.

I have been working on this project for well over a year now, the site has been live more than 3 months. I was thinking of purchasing web position gold to optimize some pages once they were ranked. There is no point doing that until we even get a ranking.

At the minute we are totally 100% scratching our heads!

Please help - any constructive help would be totally appreciated. To check out the website please see my signature or go to www.beatsuite.com

    Thanks in advance
    Stevie B

    Quick observation...
Your keywords are not comma separated in meta.

In my minds eye, this should be posted under web site review area which requires a minimum number of posts, I believe.

That said, worrying about pagerank may be premature since visual pagerank is only updated about once every three months.

The keywords tag is not used for ranking and commas were never an issue. However Smyrl is right....Post it to Site Review when you hit 10 posts and you will get lots of feedback

Interesting...so how does the spider work out the kw phrase since many sites including all my own tend not to use individual kw's because they are so general and the competition is so intense ?

The keywords you rank for are basically determined using Title, Anchor Text of IBL's, On Site Densitys, and Anchor text of Internal Links. There are others to a lesser extent but those are the most important.

Stuffing your keywords tag does nothing for the Big 3 as far as ranking.

As they say...'You learn something new every day!'
    Couple of clarifications for me...
    1. Whats an IBL ?
    2. Pagerank and search engine ranking...I'm talking about the latter
    3. I have a niche site PR4 1 + 2 in on google ( out of 130,000 sites): plus other top ten positions for other terms and sites; with virtually no content...and no incoming links...and no...I am not cloaking !!

Quite right...I do...although they are from affiliates linking to me via a merchant and not directly to my site URL.

Depending on the type or redirect, it sometimes does pass on link popularity/PR.
