I want to transfer my domain from yahoo to godaddy. How long does it take for the transfer to complete? Will my site remain unavailable during the transfer process?
The transfer can take 1 hour to 3 days and your site will be down when tranfer is taken from one to the other
It is possible when sometimes you need to transfer domains. The time depends on the process between two sides.
The last time I transferred a domain, it took around 48 hours. I think it will at least take 24 hours but count on two to three days.
It can easily take weeks, even if everything is ok. Make sure you check what's going on regularly, and check your email for that domain.
Damn it! So my site will be down during the transfer process? Is there no way to prevent it? You will be happy to know that Yahoo has increased domain renewal fees from $9.95 to $34.95/year. It applys to all yahoo domain holders. Screw yahoo!!
Recently I transfer a domain from Register.com to Godaddy it was done within 1 weeks time I think it took 5 days to be exact. I've heard that sometimes it takes long time to transfer too... so i think it depends on regitrar
I have heard that the site remains unavailable only for the time the nameservers take to update, not during the transfer. It can take 1 week to 1 month to transfer, but site is still available. Only when the transfer is complete and I change the nameserver, that the site goes off. Is that true?
The site will most likely only be down temporarily. I've read quite a few threads from many people transferring from Yahoo to Godaddy, ever since Yahoo announced the new fees. The average time frame between the two registrars seems to be 48hrs - 5 days. One thing you can do to speed up a transfer with some registrars is to log in to the "losing" registrar and confirm that you approved the transfer. This is only available with some registrars...not sure if Yahoo is one of them. .
i called to get the transfer code. not sure if that makes it faster. register.com > godaddy.com = minimum 3 days
My site was not down during my transfer from yahoo to godaddy, the name servers for yahoo stayed intact. During the ofttimes of my site, I just changed th name servers and reentered the records in godaddy. (I transferred too because of the $9.99 and $34.99 price from yahoo. I got my transferred domain for 2 years of registration for $14!!!) The process takes up to 5 days, in which case yahoo fails to deny Godaddy's transfer request, Godaddy will take hold of the domain for you. There are a few steps you have to take, and the documentation can be found at godaddy.com
One question: My nameservers are set to yns1.yahoo.com and yns2.yahoo.com, while CNAME record is directed to my hosting. What do I do with the namserver records?
