    Today, I accidently clicked on one of my ads. Will Google ban me for that??? My ads are still up.
    Does anyone know how many of your own clicks it takes to get you banned off Google Adsense?

    Happens to everyone... one time is a mistake, 2 times is a pattern, so better be careful from now on

    I clicked a few once by sheer stupidity - no problems with google. Just don't do it again. ;) They'll allow you a few tryouts/tests/ stupidities/curiosities but only a very very few. One will not get you banned.

    I did the same thing in 2004 and they told me I had clicked on my ads four times over a two month period when they suspended my account. Finally, after a bit I contacted them to explain that, well…I’m an idiot and they believed me (go figure), so my account was reopened.

    Just be careful when you browse your site. A trick I use is to turn off the java when I’m checking my sites out or adding content and that way the ads don’t show up which leaves my stupidity only risking the rest of my life but not my Google Adsense.

    lol first timer here I did it 3 times. im come pretty stupid.

    I dont know I was in the market for supplies and the ad had the supplies I was after BTW the add did lead me to buy from the ad supplier but then again I could have gotten banned.

    So far no clicks on my own ads and im still in the good books with google so they allow atleast 3.

    You'd think Google could implement some feature where you could input your IP/s in your settings and any clicks and impressions from those IPs wouldn't count so this wouldn't be an issue. I did email this as a suggestion to them but never got a reply lol.

    if(ip=='yourip'){
    //display nothing
    }
    else
    {
    google code
    }

    I do mine in the php code i just hide the ads from view if I am browsing

    There is no such number, or rather it doesn't work like that. Can you imagine if it was though? Can you imagine if Google posted on their webpage "publishers are allowed to click their ads 5 times before they are banned." Just imagine what that would lead to. Millions upon millions of publishers would click their own ads repeatedly until they are slightly less than that amount (say 4 times). If they know they're going to get banned for 5, they'll just click their ads 4 times. That is why Google would never say anything of the sort. If Google says "You are not allowed to click on your own ads", then just do what they say and don't click on your own ads. It's too risky. Google is basically free to do whatever they want. If they want to ban someone for clicking on their own ads once, they can. Most of the time, however, they won't. They just let it go. Most of the time, they allow people a few 'accidental' clicks, but remember they are under no obligation to pay you for those clicks. They can just say "You clicked on your own ads. We're not going to pay you for that. We're just going to reimburse the advertiser." And so you've just wasted your time, Google's time, the advertiser's time, and possibly raised some red flag at Google to monitor your accound more closely for fraud in the future. Bad idea. My advice is to NEVER click on your own ads. :D If you need to preview what your site will look like with adsense just use images in place of the adsense blocks.

    two things you can do to prevent yourself clicking on your own ads
    1. disable your javascript
    2. edit your hosts file. add the following entry:
    127.0.0.2 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

    Yeah, I use a firefox extension to block them, but what I'm saying is it would be nice to be able to view and work on your site with the ads in place without generating impressions and clicks. My tracker lets me put in IPs to exclude in my stats... why can't google implement something similiar? I'd of thought that would be something fairly easy for them to implement.

    The couple of times I clicked my own ads google did not pay me for them - they already do know and won't pay if you click your own ads. I think there must be some kind of grace period.

    Test it yourself and see. ;)

    I must add something here. I was a bit perturbed at first when my account was suspended for four clicks on my own ads but rationally I know the issue is much bigger than that.

    To over dramatize the possibilities let's use this example: I’m using Adsense (which I currently am) and let us say I’m spending several hundred dollars each week/month to promote a service I have, and for the sake of this example let’s also say it’s legal services for Mesothelioma, a notoriously high paying keyword in Google. Just the mere thought that someone might be allowed to go unchecked for possibly accidentally clicking on one of my ads even once would make me seriously uncomfortable. Not to mention the dozens or of webmasters each running my ads having an equal opportunity to do so.

    They need to take precautions to protect themselves but usually those precautions are well within reason. You have nothing to worry about for clicking on one of your ads just once; however, as eluded earlier in this thread you should not make a habit of it.

    Well, I my case I was at my site quite often to check out the layout etc. And, even if my IP Address had not been static my computer and browser configuration were still the same. Not many visitors return to the same place twice to find the wrong content which would make it compelling to on an ad.

    Plus I’m pretty sure they have figured out some other cryptic algorithm which might include such factors as the current phase of the moon (hehe).

    So, if I want to hurt somebody, I can every day click 10 times on site's ads from my computer and that site will be banned, right?
    That's not fair and not good way

    I guess so. I remember reading another article at this site which discussed what I think they called “Click Bombing” a competitor’s site and it makes me nauseous to even think that that’s a possibility but I can’t help to think it.

    Kind regards,
    Kimmy
