Whilst America is suffering an economic downturn, gas prices rise day after day and the dollar weakens under pressure, one American is going against this trend; virtually. An avid Internet gamer from Chicago IL, known only as Jake, has made history by making the largest purchase of "virtual currency" ever reported. He did so through the game World of Warcraft, purchasing 1,000,000 Gold (the game's currency) at a cost of just over $40,000. Check out the full article here: http://www.wowgold.net/2008/07/12/us-gamer-becomes-first-world-of-warcraft-millionaire/ Whilst I think this is an amazing story, this surely a "giant leap" too far in gaming addiction. Anyone else ever spent real-money on virtual currency?
I find that incredibly disturbing. I mean fair enough, going upto $50 or so is fine in my opinion. But $40,000?!?!! That is unbelievable.
I know, but I suppose paying $3 for a bottle of water was crazy at one point. Maybe we'll all be re-mortgaging our homes for online games soon
I sold game currency in the past for around six thousand dollars (not all to one person, in fact there were a ton of people, and lot of people were interested in the blackmarket on the forum)
$40,000 :O :O :O I feel for these people. A lot of money gone on a game. Hopefully he is rich or something
I feel sorry for these people, they live in a virtual world and are wasting their lives. One day they'll be dead and have done nothing except play video games.
Anyone play Second Life? There is a woman called Anshe Hung who sold her second home to buy a large sum of virtual land, big investment I know! This was going back in 2003 but now she is a multi millionare by buying and selling land in SL. She has offices in china who develop clothing, sell currency all for multiple games. Inpirational stuff I know! Learn more; http://anshechung.com
Who knows what this guys might be thinking? Well at least he did made the headlines by spending $40,000
