Focus on learning one language really well. Get to the stage where you don't just know the language- but your programming skills and techniques are good as well.

Once you've been programming long enough, it doesn't take too long to learn a new language whenever you need to...

Can I ask how you started off learning PHP. I'm looking to start but it looks a lot more complex than HTML.

All you need is PHP/MySQL as programming tools. You might need some AJAX and it will not be difficult for you as you know JavaScript. Good Luck!

For web development learn PHP and SQL (learn how to use mySQL with PHP as well). Make sure you are an expert at CSS and (x)HTML before you start though.

If you want to go into software development, JAVA is a nice choice.

LAMP stack with PHP. Also, as needed look into a solid PHP-based web application framework. I used Prado for a short time, because of its ASP.NET event-driven programming model (I am a .NET developer), but have moved to Zend.

Start with PHP because it's the most widely spread programming language, over time you can learn MySQL to round your knowledge but if you are newbie, you will catch many headches trying to learn both at a time.

ASP is easier to learn and implement but the drawback is that it only runs efficiently on a Windows based server regardless there is a Unix-based version called Apache ASP but not so great alternative.

The framework I think is best is open to discussion of course Each will have different requirements, so it depends on your needs. I used Prado for a while, because of its ASP.NET programming-like model. I have switched to Zend, but there are many others CakePHP, CodeIgniter, Symfony, etc. Here is a link to others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...frameworks#PHP

You won't go bad with these three "PHP,ROR,ASP" .. I'd go with ROR.. I'm tired of PHP.

But since you already know PHP/MYSQL, if I were you I'll master it first than learn another langauge from scratch again

Although it's mainly preference I would do PHP/MySQL because that's the language behind most sites and it's easy to practice/learn.
