in the last 48 hours Akismet has caught more than 450 spam comments on our dofollow blog from this same bunch of clowns. http : //mu.wordpress.org/forums/profile.php?id=699059 i broke the link to prevent them getting any juice from it. you'd think wordpress would be onto this quicker too. what is the point of this? is there anywhere these comments do get posted? i'd like to call it black hat, but really it's more like numpty-hat to be fair.
That's the reason why I avoid commenting services. Do unto others what you want others to do unto you. My Akismet had already caught more than 1800 of such spam comments. For those using commenting services do be extra careful, you do not want to end up being called a spammer instead.
to be fair, this is far from a commenting service. the comments theyre leaving have about 50 links in each to wordpress profiles about viagra and pharms. there cannot be hardly a single blog in the world that publishes their nonsense, yet still they fire up their numpty bots and waste theirs and everybody else's time.. makes you wonder doesnt it?
i dont really follow your reasoning? commenting services involve a person going to a blog and writing a comment dont they? not a bot firing off 50 posts crammed full of made up illegible words and pharms links? whats the connection?
Upgrade to the latest copy of wordpress, these spammers use some vulnerability to inject comments. I am having 50 spam comments daily on my celeb blog
This is why more and more blogs are becoming "no comments allowed". It's a shame really because I like to get feedback from my readers to see if they agree or disagree. Sad thing is, when I have investigated the comment spam, and traced it back it leads to some king of blog commenting service and I feel sorry for the person who has probably paid $6 for me to delete the comment. KP
msot of these guys are web noobs, you cna tell because they are using blogs, the starting pint for most people online. These guys just aren't using it as a positive starting point and i doubt they will make much money because nobody would buy form a site that doesn't make sense or looks a bit fishy, especially for something personal liek Viagra...
You should not pity them for their $6, you should calculate how much time you wasted on them trying to trace and clear their trash Frankly they deserved it as they never bother to check how their "SEO" was done. Deleting them is already quite kind hearted. There should be a facility to complain to their ISP.
its no big deal. akismet hasnt missed a single one of the (550+) over the last 36 hours now, its takes 3 seconds to scan down & delete. we moderate everything anyway, just makes you wonder whats in it for them, why they bother?
don't avoid doing blog commenting.but try to hire someone who can do it manually with care.otherwise it may be a negative effect,
Blogging commenting can be done respectively, and most SEO consultants don't do it. I would suggest following three simple rules to keep it fair and simple. 1. Comment only on "relevant" blogs. 2. Comment only on posts that are directly related to the website and would have some value. 3. Comment something useful; this is the key here people.
hey sandecki. did you mean respectfully? otherwise yes agree with all your points, and to be fair, usually even one of those 3 would usually be enough to get approved on our blogs
Well I have a dofollow blog. The way I fight this: 1) Akismet turned on - this is a must do 2) I have changed Wordpress settings so I have to approve every comment before it appears at my blog. If I have just a slight feeling you are commenting just to get a free backlink or your post doesn't add anything to the discussion, I just flush it away. I'm very picky with comments but on the other hand, if you write a quality post, I have no problem giving you a free backlink or even some in-comment links if they are relevant
