Google backlinks drop BIGTIME

After a lot of work on my backlinks for two moths I just watched my backlinks drop from 2000 to 241

How is this posible, my stats program tells me at least 2850 different urls to my website. Is this a big mess ....

I would swear this is a rollback.....One site so far has gained a few links; but the rest have dropped. Up one month down another.

Google only reports a portion of the backlinks. At one time it was only those of page rank 4 or better but they have since dropped that pattern.

Why are we talking about backlinks showing? How are your rankings.

terrible, but its a site of 7 months old, so I figured sandbox... but I cotinued to build links and none of the is showing, the only backlinks that are showing are from blogs.

The amount and the kind of backlinks Google is showing is not necessarily an indicator of the weight on your domain.

You guys are stessing over nothing. The google backlink command is meaningless. If any of your links went over PR5 they will not show. and most your PR4 and PR5 don't show either. Do what Summer says and check Yahoo as they are more accurate. THE GOOGLE LINK COMMAND IS MEANINGLESS. Hope that helps.

Out of 29 domains I track, only 11 went up or held their own, hence 18 went down. Actually the number of backlinks should not have changed much.

Meaningless or not. They are shifting things around. I'm still showing the same in SERPs but the IBLs are changing. The ones that are shown anyway.s

I checked yahoo. The current G update is giving me 50 bls on my shopping site, which is 49 more than it had before, but when you account for forums, the coop, etc., that's not nearly as many as I'd anticipated. Yahoo is reporting 1520 bls for my shopping site! Granted, many of the pages it reports as linked are internal, but since I only have about 230 pages total that still leaves a lot of links. Amost seems too high, but I'll take it!
