    ... the user that has downloaded the program (and installed it) through my referral link; I guess it probably needs to be installed on and launched for the first time from the same computer as it was downloaded, right ??

    i think google put some hash on the file ("firefox"), and add to G's database a relation "hash->adsense publisher" . Then, when the user installs the software, It's sends a request to google server, with that Hash. now you know what happen ...
