I know this might seem like a stupid question, but I am TOTALLY new to this web designing / hosting business, so please go lightly. I have just bought my domain name for a website I am designing. What do I do now? 1. Do I have to buy some webspace from the same company, or can I choose another one? 2. Once I have the webspace and domain name, how do I connect the two? Thank you in advance for any help you may give.
you can take the hosting from any of your desired company. when you signup they give you Nameservers which you need to feed into your domains account. it takes around 24-48 hours to activate and its done.
Wow, you just spoke completely in Chinese! LOL I am totally new at this... Could you break it down a little?
Thanks for the advice, but I'd rather try and work it out for myself, rather than get someone to do it for me. That way I know for future reference. I just wish I could located a guide on the internet in plain English! LOL
Since this is your very first web project it would have been easier if you registered the domain as part of a hosting package. That way it would all be set up for you. For simplicity it will probably be best to get hosting from the same company that registered your domain as it will most likely still get setup automatically with your domain. Although pointing domains to nameservers isn't as tough as it may sound, because you know literally nothing about hosting sites etc (no offence) I would recommend that you keep it simple until you've built up your knowledge. As amit suggested, paying someone is a good way to make sure you get things right. I know you want to learn but without the knowledge you are reduced to trial and error. Might be better to hire someone to show you how to do things. Hope this helps
Thank you for your response. The reason I had to do them separately was because I wanted a domain name ending with .jp. And I searched high and low, but couldn't find one. I came across http://www.japanregistry.com/ which sold me the name, but doesn't offer the hosting. So I had no choice other than to do them separately. I have now managed to understand a bit... up to the point where you have to point the domains to the name servers. I understand what you have to do, but I don't know what to enter. The email I got from my new web host doesn't contain anything beginning with ns0, ns1, etc.
for the first question, yes you could. for the second question The connection between webspace and domain name is the DNS. You hosting company will provide you the DNS information(either a URL or IP address). You should be able to find it in your control panel After you gather the DNS information, go to your domain registrar. There should be option like "change DNS" or "change nameserver". just copy and paste the DNS information and you are all set. (it will take a few mintue to a few hours to change the DNS record)
Guys, I need help! I did the same... although I have a different service for my domain nam and the actual hosting. I know it takes a while for it to process.... I changed the name servers. However, my html source code is showing. I uploaded all of my files to ftp... but maybe i did it wrong. Any suggestions
does the domain resolve to your site or is it "Page cannot be found" error page ? Make sure your website is in the "public_html" or "wwwroot" folder on your web space Lets have a look YO!..
The page is still in Beta form. I have only the template, and no content on it yet. (I am just testing my friends and work computers to see how it looks on different browsers etc). What do you think so? http://www.baka-gaijin.jp (Stupid Foreigner)
