    Hey there,
    I have a site, and i bought the .tv .info and .com of the name.

    But for SEO purposes im starting to thing i should not put my forum on the .info one as planed, as in my experience i have not seen any/very rarely seen .info names rank highly in google and as my forum will be the main feature of the site, i want this to be best optimized.

    Im also pondering about the .tv name, where my videos will go, i rarely see these highly ranked.

    so my question is. Is google bias towards .tlds when they calculate there ranking for a keyword/pagerank?

    A straight honest answer would be appreciated thanks.

    Hi,
    The only reason you don't see many .info because many prefer .com and that's the only reason .info isn't promoted, afaik it won't be less wight when SEOing .info.

    Absolutely NOT TRUE

    Google 'judges' sites based upon the content and backlinks and not the tld

    It's true that Google favors .com sites. I have over 85 domains and I bought a few .info because I figured this :

    .com = commecial
    .net = network
    .org = organizaton
    .info = information site
    .biz = business site
    .tv = media related
    .mobi = cellular and WAP

    The .info domains I bought were intended to be "information" sites, not commercial sites, so I thought I was doing the right thing but the problem with .info sites is that GoDaddy has been selling them for $2.99 ($1.99 with a coupon code) and so many spammers and scammers have been buying .info sites as "disposable domains" for their illicit activities. Unfortunately .info sites have gotten a bad rap.

    I even saw a story on the Philadelphia local news a few days ago telling people using the internet to stay away from .info sites because a lot of them hace Trojans, etc... :eek:

    I would never use a .info, 99% of .info sites are spam because they are so cheap to get

    Also, put ALL of your content on ONE of the tlds and forward the others to your site.

    Breaking your site out across different tlds is ridiculous and is a bad practice from an seo point of view.

    Personally, I would go with the .com

    Most people hardly know .net exists, much less .info, .tv, or .mobi

    Don't think so. Google is sophisticated enough to figure out if a site is a spam or not by its content rather than by TLD.

    Many .info ranks before .com I have seen.

    .infos just arent as brandable. when people are remembering your sight (word of mouth, etc) 9 times out of 10 theyll think blahblah.com when they type it in. Ive never seen any adverse SERPs for my info sites though. However I only buy them for cheap set and forget sites, mfa sites, and sites with scripts where I pump backlinks and then never have to worry about them again.

    .tv is actually a ccTLD for the island of Tuvalu.

    .tv will face the disadvantage of being a ccTLD and rank lower in SERPs in other countries.

    Unless you are making a Tuvalu site, avoid .tv domains.

    I'd try to get the .com's, net's, .org domains because recently Google slapped the shit out of the .info sites and quite a few high ranking sites vanished or lost rankings....Do to the fact like someone else said... .info domains are soooo cheap at Go daddy that the spammers are buying them up.....and Google isn't having it anymore....

    So stay away from .info if you want to rank well in Google...

    Then we can tell Godaddy to increase the price tag of .info sites and let us see how google views it ;)

    Yeah. Google itself doesn't have any bias upon domain TLDs, just people do.

    You have no idea what you're talking about buddy, you're just disagreeing with me to create an argument... If you have any proof to back up your statement, please post it, otherwise please keep your opinons to yourself.

    btw, it also seems like you're using two ID's here on DP (agent_dweeb + Loco.M) both promoting your vbulletinsetup site. You know that's against DP policies...

    as far as the .info proof, read below...

    Thank you. Another voice of reason here.

    If anybody wants to listen to all these "so called experts" here, go ahead and register all the .info's you want. In fact, I have a few with PR3+ and backlinks I'll sell you if you want them but as James Dean Nash said, I can personally state that I've seen the SERPS on my .info domains drop recently.

    If you're in a small niche with very little results (ie: tattoo forum = 585K results), the TLD doesn't make a difference *but* go google something credit or mortgage related (competitive niches) and see if there are any .info domains in the first pages.

    I got my .TV domian rank great for nearly all the keywords within 3 week - brand new domain. http://www.siomka.tv Now ranks top for all the keywords I target! It is a site related to TV though...

    I think people are seriously underestimating Google's sophistication is they think that it evaluates potential spam sites on the TLD affix :rolleyes:
