Just discovered today that SEOmoz have had their web 2.0 awards page penalized by google, just because it was successful and lots of people linked to it. More info. on my blog: http://www.seoco.co.uk/blog/2008/06/12/seomoz-penalised-by-google-for-web-20-awards/
I don't think because of this reason Google panelized SEOMoz. How could you control others linking to your website ?
So true, they are not forcing people to link. It is a users choice. Check the page again it is showing page rank for me.
as the article says it might be because of the link back which they gave in forum of badges!! G many times takes things just too far I guess
It is not the right page that comes up, the one that should come up is: http://www.seomoz.org/web2.0 Up until today it had a Google PageRank of 7/10 and ranked on the 1st page of Google for web 2.0
I am a member of SEOmoz and the page shows nothing for PR if I am logged in or not. It does however show a ton of back links.
I went to google and searched, then found the page, then clicked it...and seomoz is giving me a server not found for me...might that influence how google sees it?
google is becoming so crazy for these days. ranks are changing more than usual. it also may be a temp. problem for seomoz
Just FYI - the "penalty" isn't really a penalty at all. It's just a filter that Google puts on all URLs ending in .0 (they won't include them in their index). When we changed the awards URL from http://www.seomoz.org/web2.0/ to http://www.seomoz.org/web2.0 (no trailing /), that caused the page to be booted from the index.
