When I look at the list over on http://www.iplists.com/

for example: the very first one is 209.185.108

does that mean they own that entire block?

    209.185.108.1 through 209.185.108.255 ?

    e.g.
    209.185.108.1
    209.185.108.2
    209.185.108.3
    etc .4
    etc .5
    etc .6

    ....

I am ssuming they do, but would like better clarification from you guys who know best.

I'm new to all of this info, and I have currently written a mod for my directories to see where google is, and I would like to update my ranges in my check, to be as widespread as I can be.

Yes, it does mean that. Yahoo or Google wouldn't buy a single IP address, but rather a whole Class C or Class B.
