Dating this Update

I have a theory which states that:

    1. Each Google PR/Backlink Update is done on a snapshot of the Internet at some point in the past.

    2. We should be able to estimate that date by looking at the dates at which Googlebot *first* accessed *new* pages. New pages which do not have PR assigned show us that the snapshot date was before the date upon which they were first crawled.

    Consider this logfile entry:

    64.68.82.159 - - [21/Apr/2004:18:36:38 -0600] "GET /seo-search-engine-optimization.shtml HTTP/1.0" 200 5619 "-" "Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)"

That's Googlebot getting a page on 21 April.

That page did *NOT* receive PR in this update.

Therefore, it appears that this update is from an Internet snapshot that is well over a month old.

One caveat: This update ain't over yet. It is possible that this example page could get PR in the next few days. This will invalidate this example, but it will not invalidate the general theory.

From my experience it takes two PR updates to actually show the PR of a new page. Anybody else experience that? I have had it happen this way numerous times.

from my experience it looked like this: the page needs to be indexed BEFORE the PR update starts. if the page was cached just recently, it won't get a PR until the next time around.
