WMTs Backlinks Vs PageRank Comparison, experiment

Hi all, I propose an experiment. (If it hasn’t already been done)

The recent back link update in webmaster tools got me thinking,
I was wondering if anyone had ever done a comparison of the backlinks that are reported in webmaster tools and Page Rank! Just to clarify, is there a link between the amount of back links reported in Webmaster tools and PR?
Now before I get jumped on, let me just say, I know all backlinks are different, higher PR backlinks pass on higher PR, and they should be of the same or similar topic to make a difference. But the way I see it, is when a site starts to get up into the thousands of backlinks then, the back links must at some point average out, I mean you would have to be pretty lucky to be able to get all backlinks relative to your topic and with a high PR. I don't doubt that some sites do but the majority wouldn't.
So if that assumption was correct then you would think that a certain number of backlinks reported in webmaster tools could give you a rough idea of what PR you should have or would get at the next update.
    Follow me?
I have also noticed that although there is a difference between Yahoos site explorer and what webmaster tools reports, they are pretty even (for me anyway). So I think that only counting the links that webmaster tools reports would be the best and simplest way to determine whether there is a link between the backlinks reported in webmaster tools and PR. (Does that make sense?)
Ok, so is this a good idea? Anyone interested in trying to find out? The results might make a good blog story for someone!
So if anyone is interested post the number of backlinks webmaster tools reports and your PR to this thread. And to make it even simpler we should report the total links regardless of which page they point to, and only the page rank of the main page.

Ok I will kick it of,

    All pages (total links) 705
    PR-2

    Cheers
    James
