New Adsense Beta Feature?
Check out this new Adsense format. I've never seen it before. I wonder if it is a beta of what might get released to us regular publishers soon?
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/links..._resources.htm The ad is on the left side. A skyscraper. Refresh a few times if you don't see what I'm talking about. Basically there is a list of keywords under the ad that let you change the ads shown. Pretty neat. |

Hmmm. I wasn't aware of any such feature.
Doesn't sound like a very good idea though, if you can select the kind of ads you want. Everyone will go for "asbestos cancer" ads and similar high paying ads and the advertisers who pay $0.09 per click through won't have a shot at getting any exposures. I couldn't find anything about this on Google's site. Are you sure this site's not using some "loophole" to manipulate the ads being served?

It uses frames to change the page (that frame atleast).

I checked the page source. The "ad_format" parameter has a "beta" extension on it. I think it is a legit beta format...

Would that work for you? Would you ever switch over a TV to watch different adverts ? Doesn't really seem like a wise idea + Search engines dont really like frames.. so that would seem an odd move.

Agreed. At first glance it seems like a good idea. But not quite sure how much it would be used by real visitors. Apparently, however, they seem to be able to configure a theme for the ad box, or at least the keywords at the base, etc. That would be useful... ;-)

bobafind, I would be careful. That could be considered modifying the code, which is against G's TOS. And I'm sure they have ways of tracking/reporting on the usage of it.

I mean... if you are looking for a specific product and you can get the information from a trusted source, such as Google, why not asking them to show you the Ads relevant to the product you want? Looks extremely beneficial to me... BOTH for the customers AND the publishers! Awesome! . |

I tried it - couldn't get any ads, so I removed it. Wonder if you have to be an "official" beta tester to use it. Oh well.. if it's a good product, it will be released eventually

I would assume that google would make it so the ads would have to still be relevant to your site. Like, i wouldn't be able to run race car ads on my yoga site. But if i could specify books, directories, teachers, etc, that would make it more useful to the user.

I bet the different options are automatically determined by the context of the page. Just an extension of what AdSense already does.

I feel, more then 50% of the people who click on adsense ads, don't even know that's an ad !! Just my opinion !!

But one thing I noticed. Since I came to know about Adsense, I am observing the ads more carefully, and also clicking many of them to find the sites of my interest. And ofcourse, I am getting many useful new sites.

Two things stick out:
62% are unaware of the difference between paid for and organic results 17% say they always find what they are looking for Although I do find this one funny: 55% disapprove of search sites collecting information about them If they only knew the half of it __________________ Health Forum | Submit your site - No Recip Needed | Get Your Site Ranked Quick - Coop Network |

It does give you a few options first that seem related with the context of the page, but then you get an input area with the title “Change to Ads About:” where you can ask for Ads about anything you want, and it does give Ads about anything... I tried the weirdest things and got the Ads about them. . |

I think it's a great idea, and personally I'd love it (Much like the google ad topics "clues" that premium publishers (reference, com, etc.) get).

This is old news
![]() http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum89/3943.htm It does sound quite cool.. and I think it would reduce the number of people using lots of fake text to change the ad topic. Josh
