I have heard that if you only have 1 ad instead of 3 adsense ads on a page you get paid higher per click.
Having 3 units doesn't always mean more CTR or higher payouts. I tweak ads every now and then to getter better payout and I find your statement true on some of my sites.
The first ad on your page (in the HTML, not necessary how it displays) will have the highest paying ads. Therefore, you're best if your first ad can also have your highest CTR. I had a site where the first ad was in the left sidebar, and the second ad was in the content. The second ad got the majority of the clicks, but they were all slightly lower paying. I removed the ad in the sidebar, and my earnings went up nicely. My CTR dropped a little bit (I wasn't getting ANY clicks in the sidebar anymore, since the ad was gone), but the increased CPC of the middle ad more than made up for it. Experiment and prosper!
I think it may vary from site to site. So you have to test it yourself. Give it one full week in each type and compare the results.
I think it varies. Some sites just slap up 3 ads and they do not fit into the design at all making the site look shoty which means people visiting the site are less likely to stay at your site. I believe a good site layout and building adsense into it is what makes it successful. The longer the visitor stays at your site and reads or plays around with your content the better chance of them reading the adsense links and clicking on one.
I have tested it and in a way i saw a huge difference. First I started getting clicks 2nd i started getting paid almost $2 per click whereas that website never got clicks even if it did get clicks they were like 2 cent clicks... I have tested it only on 1 website..
I AGREE!!! Just tested it last night and woke up today with already $11.16 in my adsense account. 3 clicks equaling $2.17. Niche wise, I'm doing printers.
almondj, I would suggest you not to share your exact keywords, otherwise you will face many MFA sites soon. I will give it a try. I don't use the maximum allowed number of AdSense even now, but I will reduce the ads to the bare minimum and see what happens.
Some people say that, less ads = higher earning per click. However, I tried it but I had the same earning per click when I had 1 ad unit and when I put 2 more ad units and 1 link unit.
MFA = Made For Ad Sense. Basically it's a site with little content that target specific keywords that are believed to pay good.
