I have a site which is 2 years old and indexed in Yahoo and take even some first position there. Should I submit my web to Yahoo directory or not
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

IMHO, getting listed would be a good help to your site, in term of generating traffic and a very, very strong backlink.

However, I myself never get listed in Yahoo! dir - I'd also love some opinion from those that already have listed :)

    Cheers!

I signed up about 6 years ago & paid the $299.

My opinion is it isn't worth it.

save the 299 and get a good comment poster and a good forum poster and it will be worth more. I have nothing on yahoo dmoz but always have high ranking sites.

    Interesting comments.

You all familiar with Stephan Mahaney of planetocean? He would disagree with these posters here, at the moment.

It may be true that the Yahoo directory may not send you a SINGLE visitor. But to assume that a paid, reviewed listing of a website at a cost of 299/year would not have any influence in any search engine may be foolhearty.

The short answer, is it depends. Is this a commercial site? Does this site make money? Does it make more than $299/year? Perhaps $12000 a year?

Do you advertise on your partner/link page that your site is in the yahoo directory? This may improve your chances of getting higher quality 'link exchanges' or other opportunities.

Spending money on internet marketing is like everything else.......is there a positive roi, and are you thinking outside the box and making sure it aint having any EFFECT by being listed.

The one thing I dislike most about yahoo, is sometimes they redirect that link. But sometimes they dont, and sometimes you can get listed in 10 different yahoo's, ie countries. Furthermore, I am not convinced that the redirect has no effect on how other crawler based engines view your site.

It MAY have an influence. If you are a commercial site, and you are profitable, consider it. We will always have this debate in the seo community. Some say Yahoo aint worth it, same say business.com aint worth it (it redirects alot too, ie never get their sponsored), some say BOTW.org aint worth it......alot of it depends on your specific niche, your existing roi, etc.

Even if they dont, somehow, help give you direct traffic, advertising on your partner/link page that you belong to these directories may open more doors that would have been closed to you in your own link campaigning efforts, ie when you get them on the phone and convince them to 3way link with you.

    good luck.

Even website makes $50K per year investment or promotion must be reasonable. You can pay 10 other directories with PR6-7, 3-5 years old for $299 and get more effect

Its not worth it IMO. I signed up for it awhile ago and didn't really get much from it as far as traffic is concerned. It is free if your web site is a non corporate website - did you know?

If you have the money, then it certainly can't hurt you to join the directory.
Many sites are part of the directory, but you never know who may come across!

I think if you could afford this with out a problem it is worth it, but if your tight with your money. Or dont have the cash to be tossing like that save your money.

Personally I STRONGLY reccomend it. When I start a new site I always submit to Yahoo Directory for $299. If you are looking for a PR boost, this is it. A zero PR site will jump to PR2 overnight and a PR 1 site will jump to about PR 3-4.

It is very powerful and worth it. I am aware almost everyone disagrees with this, but it has benefited me!

Yahoo and DMOZ are good places to get links but I think their value has been greatly overestimated

Where is the link for submitting non-corporate website for free??? I can't find it anywhere. It always takes me to $299 submission page.
