when you opt out of 'advertise on this site', how long does it take to stop appearing with your ads? Or... Do I have to replace the code? I hope not...
it took me about 12 hours to take effect. It's not instant, thats for sure. You don't have to replace the code.
It takes anywhere from a day to two days. But why would you want to get rid of it? Can you imagine if someone wanted to buy the inventory for your site? The "Advertise on this site" makes it very easy for new advertisers to advertise on a site. They'd have to outbid your highest ads, and you'd be cleaning up. I would keep it if I were you.
Hmmm, good point. The reason was to alow my ads to blend in a little better. But that is a good point.
Maybe we'll want to opt out in order to promote the adword referral, which can earn you 20$ when the advertize on this site doesn't give you any chance to get anything AND is on all your adsense blocks (you can't be selective) so it ruins your efforts to make the ads look like, well.. not ads!
Senserely, That is interesting. Can I ask you to clarify something for me? I had an awesome month in January. Since then rev has been better than before Jan, but not up there, you know. I have noticed the same advertiser on many, many pages of my site. Are you saying that maybe this guy opted to advertise on my site and therefore takes precedence over other ads that might pay higher rates? I thought that Google would always place the higher paying ad whether or not someone opted in to your site. In fact, the January revenue went up so high after I put on 'advertise on this site'.
I'm not Senserely, but I play one on TV. And yes, it looks like someone did buy up your site's inventory. In order to get his ads to show up all over, he would have to be the highest bidder on all your different ad formats. So yes, the reason you're making more this month is because of him -- he's eating up your inventory and paying you maximum CPC for it. Lucky you.
No, I am not making more this month. I am earning less. Or at least I was. I seem to be doing better over the last few days -mostly because I replaced some ad blocks I had removed, I think. I'll have to start an 'adventures in adsense' thread to tell about the ups and downs of the last month or so. But thanks for the input Jack. i wasn't sure whether I should block this guy or not. Now I know NOT!.
Huh, I guess I misread. What a dummy . Usually when someone buys out your inventory your CPM should, theoretically speaking, be higher. For instance, one of my sites is an entertainment site, and everytime the Sundance Channel puts in a buy (I guess they have my site as one of their "buy it everytime" sites) to promote something, my earnings for that month jumps by at least 20%.
Well it kind of makes sense anyway according to what you said. If they are buying out my inventory - and I find it hard to find a page they are not on sometimes, then the more chances they have to advertise the better, right? When I cut ad blocks trying to pump the highest payers to the top, then I cut out some opportunities for these guys to give me money
Yeah, when Sundance does that inventory thing on my entertainment site, they buy everything, from the half banner to the sky to the leaderboard to the boxes. I don't use Adwords, so I'm not sure how it works, but I'm guessing they just pick "every available ad banner" to advertise on.
I know have several sites competing to buy out my inventory, must like my site. Good thing, more competitors please.
In adwords, when you choose a site targeted campaign, you can submit images and text ads. Your text ad will be displayed in all ads format, resizing the text, like we're used to see them. And for image ads, obviously they can be displayed only in adsense blocks that have the format allowing images AND of the right size for the submitted image(s) AND if those adsense blocks accept text+images (publisher settings)
In your adsense account, on the "my account" tab then look down on the page where it says "Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up" then click EDIT
May I present an alternative - on larger sites I would suggest people opt-out and place their own 'Advertise on this site' link on their page in the footer linking to your address. The majority of your visitors are surfers and if advertisers want to advertise they will look for an advertising link on your site and then you can set-up a special deal with them away from AdSense. You can run their adverts along with AdSense and earn more and Google can't take a cut. Pete
I removed that line/link and my CTR went up. I also let people advertise directly, but I've removed most of my direct ads since they were very annoying. Google does a good enough job, I'll let them keep their percentage
