Warez Sitemaster Sees Jail Time

May 2, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- A Woodbury, Connecticut man found responsible for his involvement with Warez sites -- organized groups that distributes illegal content online -- has been jailed for 30 months for copyright infringement, according to reports by The Register.


Authorities also seized the computer equipment that Fish used to commit the offences.

From January 2003 to July 2005, Fish served as the site operator as well as a scripter, equipment supplier, broker and encoder for warez sites, according to court papers. He bypassed copyright controls on DVDs and uploaded content.

The case is part of the FBI and the US Attorney's Office-led Operation Copycat, which targets online warez groups that illegally distribute newly-released movies, games, software and music online.

To date, Operation Copycat has successfully led to 40 convictions as part of an overall federal investigation against the illegal distribution of copyrighted materials, known as Operation Site Down.

hahaha now how others will provide free matters, their are soo many blogs those depends on warez i have seen they only provide games and movies link , best of luck for them also , but why they cant stop rapidshare . They are also helping others in piracy work by providing free upload service .

I am against people geting go jail for warez but a fine or some measures must be taken to stop this ...

 

so its tuff to start the warez forum and risky also ad if it get popular more problems so its thought to get it done corectly

Thirty months? That's too harsh. Paying a fine would be more appropriate.

 

Do you still Find it harsh, even if a webmaster has a forum or a site where he or she, has (1 Million $) Of scripts, Movies, Music, Softwares. .etc, well ithink i would prefer going to jail for 3 years rather than paying a million

30 months is a bit too harsh. Maybe around 18 months + some fine..
