New concept for listing bidding directories - Bid Rating!

I know most of us have seen lots of lists of bidding directories around in various formats, but few of them offer anything of value and most will order their sites depending on how much they pay for their listing.

I've come up with a fairer approach which is based on the common question - which bidding directory should I buy a link on?

I have created a new rating system for bidding directories which I've called 'Bid Rating' or BR for short. I have been working on the BR for a while now to come up with an algorithm that gives a fair and accurate weighting - which takes into account a sites PageRank and inbound link counts from different search engines. The BR for all sites is updated weekly.

There is a flat $5 for a listing, or reciprocal listings are free as long as the guidelines are followed (link must be on your front page). There is no difference to the BR weighting of either a paid or free listing as this would contradict what I am trying to achieve - a real and valuable resource for people wanting to buy links on bidding directories.

Let me know what you think, and of course feel free to add your bidding directory!

I agree with all your comments and as such I will now provide free listings. if anyone wants to give a link back they can, but it will not be required.

    There are 2 main differences:

    1. I don't provide min bid/high bid details as these are rarely accurate and therefore misleading.

    2. My Bid Rating system is not limited to ratings between 1 and 10. There is no set limit as to what Bid Rating a bidding directory can achieve on my site, which gives a clearer picture of that directory's worth. Case in point -

On Bidilicious, the top site as a BR of 7.2. Now let's assume for arguments sake that you could also buy a link on Google.com. Google could only have a BR of 10.0 which is only a multiplier of 1.38 which would indicate that a link on Google (10) is not even worth double that of a link on Big Web Links (7.2).

On my site, Google.com would have a BR of 18,546,866. My current top site ifusenet has a BR of 1521 which means that with my system, Google has a multplier of 12193.86 which means that a link on Google is about 12,000 times more valuable than a link on ifusenet.

Whilst I will not assert that my algorithm is perfect, I think it does represent a more realistic representation of a site's worth.

    1. The min bid/high bid details are as accurate as they possibly can be. They are updated every single day and the ONLY reasons they would possibly be inaccurate is:

    a) The bidding directory is unreachable from my network at the time an update is performed.

    b) The directory receives a new bid, in which case the figure would be picked up during the following days update.

    c) The owner changes his/her minimum bid settings, in which case the figure would be picked up during the following days update.

    2. I have publicly stated that my system does not in any way use the Google PageRank values for any part of the BR calculation. Do not therefore make the assumption that just because Google has a high PR that they would also have a high BR because they would not.

They would fail in a number of criteria including but not limited to a complete lack of content, lack of listings, invalid HTML, invalid CSS, lack of appearance in the SERPS for related keywords, poor design, etc. The remaining areas they may well far exceed the results of the bidding directories listed but this would not be enough for them to produce a BR of 10.

Matt, well done for developing your own system but please don't presume that yours is anything like mine or anyone elses for that matter. Your system rely's on PageRank as a major factor whereas mine doesn't even look at it at all. Your system is rating sites against a generalisation of factors which apply to all web sites which is why it was so easy for you to come up with the Google comparison.

Bidilicious does not work like that, if I were to apply any general type of web site to my algo then they would be unlikely to rank well against the bidding directories because my system focus's on both general factors and bidding directory specific factors.

The point I was trying to make is that a rating system between 1 - 10 or 1 - 100 or even 1 - 1000 limits the maximum rating that a site can have.

I have not presumed that my site is like your or anyone elses. I have developed my own algorithm and written my own code from scratch.

My site does NOT rely on PageRank as a major factor, although it is a factor. The reality is that PageRank in and of itself will also rate a good site fairly well. You are correct in stating that my algorithm does look at factors that can apply to any website, and indeed that is the very thing I believe bidding directories must offer, otherwise why pay to have your link listed on them?

I agree that Bidilicious and Directory Rate offer a totally different perspective and different features, as does The Bid Rater.

skrud, I did not see any submissions for any of the sites above. None of them would be approved at any rate as The Bid Rater is only for bidding directories.
