not really.. i just have to weighed down why people pony up for self-hosted when they can do it with free and make same money..

blogspot does not suck - it can help - don't forget that it is a free service

But it's better to have your own domain name, wordpress and a reliable hosting service indeed

You can add on a domain name to a blogger blog can't you? I love Google, but blogger is lacking in some key areas of functionality that I wish they'd hurry up and improve on already.

free things like this are a great way to get started, not everyone is interested in making money they just want to express themselves, I do agree though that getting your own domain and learning how to use wordpress is a much better option for just about anyone

blogspot is blocked in China by the Great firewall. You can only read those blogs using a proxy, some of them don't work correctly with a proxy
