Vista using a lot of a RAM?

Lately, I've been noticing in my laptop that it makes a 'treeeee un teee" sort of sound, and the CPU usage goes all the way up to about 90%, and the RAM is all being used, o MB's are FREE. :( I have 1 GB RAM.

A few hours ago, I got new RAM sticks in my laptop and now it is about 1.5 GB RAM. Seems to be fine, for now.

Doesn't Vista really suck? I was going to get 4 GB RAM in there, any the tech guy I went to said that the laptop I have can hold 4 GB's of RAM, but when I tried it, Vista wouldn't recognize the RAM at all. The screen wouldn't load, neither would Vista. I tried 3 GB's, and 2 GB's, but nothing worked, so I went down to 1.5 GB, and it worked fine.

Don't you dislike Vista very much?

I have a desktop Vista and it works fine. You may want to try to disable the side bar that start up with Vista. That takes a long time to load.
The loading time also depend on your processor.

Yes, I had already disabled the Side Bar when I first got it. I believe the computer modules and stuff take pretty long to load. My processor is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 1.7 GHz.

Your motherboard is probably at fault for not recognizing the RAM, not Vista.

Actually, the motherboard recognized it. When I went to the boot menu, and the F12 options and such, I saw that it was recognized there when I installed the other amount of RAM's, but Vista didn't.

The problems you described are hardware related.

I would suggest you check the Laptop vendor's site to see if there are any BIOS updates available to fix such issues.

Also if you were hugely mixing the various speeds although usually it just bottlenecks it. Could be the problem.

    1) is it intel? some intel chipsets fucked over microsoft so it'll be really slow
    2) google "why does vista use so much ram", you'll realize it's due to superfetch. It can be disabled, but vista would be slower than XP then
    3) it sounds like it's your laptop that's the problem. I bet if there's one fault, there will be a few.

Seems like you tried different brand and size memory sticks? It can cause problems sometimes and it won't work as smooth as 2 sticks of the same brand and size.

    I love Vista.

you can also try to install the Service Pack 1. I've just installed it (came in Danish yesterday), and I got a bit performance boost in Photoshop CS3... Startup time and shutdown time are also faster, and the way you browse in the OS is also faster (launches apps faster etc.).

BIOS updates was one of the factors which was not supporting the RAM.

    I have a Toshiba laptop.

    elias_sorensen - Where can I download it?

I think vista is ok, i have it with 2GB ram and its fine. The ram issue you have is hardware. Vista does only recognise 3GB of ram, unless you install SP1 then it apparently recognises more.
