Hello all, Astonishingly one of my old domain ( never used past 5 months ) attained a PR7 and I'm wondering how can I monetize this old domain by setting up a website. Please suggest some idea so that I can use this domain' s high PR for something valueable. Thanks, any help appreciated. PS: the domain have a term "host" in it.
Does that imply I cannot reach top 10 from here ? Currently its nowhere top 10 in google, as I already written I haven't used this domain past 5 months and it was showing the server's cpanel pages these months.
Garden variety PR may be useful for powering internal pages but not enough by itself. If the pr has purpose, for example if the anchor text was all mainly about e.g. "black and white tv's" than you would have a change on that phrase. Maybe a small pay for inclusion directory? Sell text links off it? Sell the domain?
put it in the coop! Make something useful out of it like a hosting directory with thousands of pages of hosts...mmm.
I think the best way for making money from this site is selling links. If you are not on the top of google or other search engines PR doesn't matter. But most people belive that PR will affect their rankings. So sell links for 100 / one. If you sell 15 you will have from this site 1500 $/month

thanks for the comments guys, but i'm still confused about this domains PR. If anyone want to investigate how this domain got high PR then do it on this : www.devhost.org DP's tool suggest 501 back link with PR7. Any comments?
You could do one of two things: IMO the quickest and hassle free way of making money would be to simply sell the domain to somebody who might be interested. The other option of course is to sell text links as suggested by somebody else in this forum. Of course, the only problem you will have would be in marketing this. So, I would advise that you could contact one of the sites selling text links, like TextLinkBrokers or others (there are heaps out there) and see if they would like to sell text links on your site for you, for a certain commission. This might work!
I have recently seen the same thing happen to a now unused webiste of a competitor www. usgolf gifts .com (take out spaces) it is now PR6 because of the redirected page it is now showing from what I can tell. Before they were PR2 when they were in operation. So what I think may be happening is the google recognizes the cpanel page as PR7 only and when you actually upload a website the pr will dissappear at the next update. (I know this isn't proven, just my guess so no flaming necessary - thank you)
This was the same thing another forum member revealed. But I'm still confused about the backlinks. If this is true, then how my domain is getting 501 back links ? and btw, cpanel.net have about 1200 back links.
You could be onto something, as that cpanel page is most likely serverwide default cpanel page ie that page could be served on the main domain as well. But I'd guess in this case there is some referrer spam business going on (99% sure the domain owner isn't involved) it appears other sites are giving you free backlinks...no idea why though. <input type="hidden" name="referer" value="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=link%3Awww.devhost.org&btnG=Google+Search"> for instance on http://www.igougo.com/planning/journal.asp?JournalID=31535 edit: I retract that last statement, don't know why I even said that.
Thats what I suggested was the case via PM. Test it if you want by putting a site in there, but I recomend you wait till the next PR update to confirm the pr is actually associted with your site before you start selling links, as people who pay $ for links like that are not usually stupid and if the pr is not actually there it will come back to bite you. I would contact cpannel and ask them as they would probably have come accross this before.
Thanks for the suggestions guys n gals. I have decided to put up a webhosting information site there and use coop on the site for moment. will that be problem running coop ?
So it's not a redirect. Must be genuine (but likely outdated - as toolbar PR is very unreliable). Haven't looked much further in detail though.
I think the PR7 is related to a lot of backlinks from some high ranking pages and a decent amount (500+) total backlinks to the homepage. The PR7 though, is not really going to do anything for you unless you: a) sell links from that page b) build it out and link it to other pages withing the domain c) etc... It is a decent domain name, you may be able to just sell the domain for a pretty penny....
As soon as you build something on it, it will leak away a lot as well. PR7 will drop if no new links come in.
