What are ISP's using for billing software?

Discussion in 'Optigold ISP' started by syoule, Mar 16, 2008.

    Hi All,

I have never ran Optigold but did look at it quite some time ago when it was still being supported. We decided to go with Extent RBS which has been taken over by Alepo. While the software works well and costs heaps, it's very much lacking in features so I came back to check on Optigold to find it's being discontinued. What are all you ISP's doing for billing software? Can anyone list a reasonably priced, full featured that supports dialup, nice invoices in PDF, customer care, etc.

    Regards,

    Steve

Ah, where did you see OG was being discontinued? I've not seen anyone from DP make that official statement.

In any event, we are still using the product. I've not seen any official news of EOL or discontinuation. It is still listed for sale, and the forums still seem to be open. What appears to be discontinued or SUPPORT for the product.

    Hope this helps.

check out Freeside (http://www.freeside.biz) if you don't mind the open source community effort and support, which is more than what you get with Optigold. The more people that get behind it, the better it will become!

Well few months back when i was operating as an ISP and was providing PPPoE based DSL connections, I was using FREERADIUS as AAA server and an excellent admin panel, customerpanel, and billing system was coded by me. All i can say that if you have linux experience , you can make system like ISP eg: vodafone etc...

True, but re-inventing the wheel can be time consuming, especially if there is something already out there. The problem we have in the "ISP" business model is that since we are not strictly hosting, using things like Modern Bill for instance or any other modern billing system is that they do not allow for the mass printing of snail mail invoices. While this has certainly decreased, we still have thousands of postal bound paper mail invoices that have to be printed and sent.

I've yet to find any other billing system out there that allows for this flexibility.

If wouldn't be very hard to make one yourself if you knew a web programming language.

http://www.visp.net has great software and back-end solutions (email, hosting, signup servers, etc). I know of some ISPs in my area using them, and they all highly recommend it. They provide more of a full solution, including services, than *just* software though.

Ok, but can you use just the billing system/backend, or do you have to use the VISP system, ie., their VPOP and other solutions that make you as their acronym suggests (VISP) "VIRTUAL" ISP?

    Thanks.

IEA Software looks promising. I'm still surprise people support or back Optigold. If there is any question on wether optigold is being support or still being sold or simply is not EOL try contacting them. If they take your money beware! thats the last you'll here from them.

People still use it because it works. It does need updating, but it still works. Its the only billing software out there for an ISP that lets you actually print actual paper invoices automatically, which neither modernbill or platy, or any of these other ones will do. That's something that larger ISP's just cannot live without. Some places still require a paper bill. There's no way to do that with these other products.
