Its clear that masked urls are not allowed (though selectively)
My question is I want to list a website for sale, the website is dmoz listed and my understanding is that if the url is listed in this way DMOZ may remove the site.
So usually the url would be masked, the other option is "pm me for url" which i dont want to do as this generates loads of PM,s most of which wont lead to any thing.
So whats the best way? A limk to another site a nd list the url, a gif of the url??

A gif of the url should probably be the best solution for your problem.
Ps: Cool you don't want a "pm me details" kind of thread. Rep added just for that. :)

Nothing 'selective' about it - masked urls are not allowed. Any found are removed and an infraction issued. This is a big forum and therefore impossible to read every post so should you find a masked url please report it using this button [IMG].

Now onto your question - what you can do is create an image of your url then upload it as an attachment to your post (i.e. use 'Manage Attachments' button). This can then be deleted at any time from within your usercp.

perhaps using the domain(.)com would work too, a lot of people use this to avoid being listed in the search engines.

I don't see any need to ban masked url in the SITES section. Obviously the link is going to be redirected to the site being sold in the thread... and if not people can report it to a mod.
