There is a club for that. A club larger then the club for those with sites listed. ;)

Become an editor... though even then it's not a guarantee.

Up to two weeks or more... lol.

Submit & forget. Or Forget to submit... you'll find the wait times are about just as long.

If you submit to Dmoz Main categories you are most likley to wait forever
Look at this this way. Dmoz employs human editors that manually review each site
if you where to submit your site to finance category together with other thousands of site related to your site your are likely to wait forever. The idea here is to find the subcategory with the lowest amount of pages indexed and submit it there.

Why? because Dmoz also have there own interest in providing results
so if they haven't got enough result for that sub category
they will most likely take a look at your submission early kind of a back door if you'd like
    Hope that helps

No, there isn't a sure way. Sites are listed at our discretion, and there is no right or guarantee that a site will be listed.

It sometimes takes a few days, and other times it could be a couple of years. Just suggest your site, as you have done, and then go on to promote your site in other ways, nothing more you can do, :).

Depends how much you want to pay.

Without payment: 1 day to never (most likely never)

with payment: less than 10 days. ;)

If it were not for thread after thread of sites not getting listed combined with sites like scriptlance that seemingly have succeeded in paying and getting listed within a week, then maybe, just maybe, people would start believing you...

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=445035&highlight=scriptlance

Though honestly, I'm more of the mind that paying is a bad thing, as if you get caught by the wrong editor, then your site does get banned. Though, with the success rates of getting a listing otherwise, getting banned is not much of a difference then not getting a listing, so for many the risk IS worth it.

And as for Gworld's Porno buddies, they all host higher quality sites then the adult listings of DMOZ, which all seem to be affiliate sites, so heh, tell me they don't belong to editors, and I'll show you a liar. The most low quality porn on the net is linked through the ODP, and it's a sure sign of the quality of the rest of the project.

It really depends on what the category is, in which section of the Directory, how many editors are working in that area, and how much interest and free time they have available to edit.

I might jump on the comp for a few minutes, do four or five edits, and not get back on till the next day or for a week.

Other times, I might do a hundred in one day.

As this is a hobby, not a job, I'm under no obligation to anyone as an editor. It's merely a community project that I partipate in at will. If and when I participate is my business. Right now, I'm not. :)

Depends on how much you want to pay.

Without payment: 1 day to years, depending on the area of the directory it was submitted to, if the site is otherwise listable.

with payment: less than 10 days and you will either get a perma-ban for the site, or a listing that gets added and then removed for abuse, followed by a perma-ban.

OR you might just squeak one in that doesn't get caught.

So if you are a black-hat and are willing to risk a permaban you might think it worth trying to pay. I suppose it depends on whether time or a listing is more important to you.....

I know a guy who paid $300 for a listing, but never got in.

I submitted my site over 3 years ago and even tried contacting the editors regarding my submission, but never got a reply.

So my only conculsion is that it's a matter of either knowing the editors in person or pure luck.

Excellent! Then he got just what he deserved. I highly reccommend that the rest of you do the same, :D.

And, should you be lucky enough to attempt bribing a real editor, there is the added benefit of permanent banishment of you and yours. Editors are waiting eagerly for your attempts!

And to the PMs I've received recently, I don't give tips or guidance to becoming an editor, all that's neccessary is total honesty.

Are you saying we should all pay editors to not list our sites ;) That seems to be about the only only real free service the ODP already provides :p

Sorry, not meant to be trolling, was a weak attempt at humor

Well, honesty certainly helps, but picking sites that are not already listed, but are listable will help. So will making sure they are listable in whatever cat you are applying too, as well as using correct descriptions.

I totally disgree. Honesty not only doesn't help but it is a sure way not to be accepted. The choosing of the sites are not important either. The only important thing is to make them believe that you are stupid and naive and don't know much about Internet. :D
After you are in, then you can read crowbar posts and you pretty much know the sure way to advancement in DMOZ.;)

There is always a limit to how much people with your special kind of talent can advance and after that, it needs something more. :D
