How would one advertise (SEO) a Consumer Electronics site... my website is www.gadget-net.com (take a look if you need) i want to know if this market is too competative to really get into using the basic keywords or phrases suich as, digital camera or mp3 player. would there be a better way of getting results and sales from, for example, CPA affiliate marketing?

if anyone can give me some good ideas and some useful help, it would be much needed

    thanks! ;)

Look as for the keywords it is better to try wordtracker. And as for the marketing use the Basic SEO techniques.Forums and article postings.Blogs and directory submissions.Link Exchanges etc etc.Adjust your Meta Tags properly, keep adding fresh and original content.Once the spiders crawls your website it will be indexed and cached.
For SERP'S relate to your keyword.Keep a strong relevancy. Also check if your SEO score is good. This can be found out by using various online tools.Go get a Google analysis account.Try submitting your website in major directories like DMOZ.Incase you need a blogsite that is related to your website create a blog and claim it by getting a technorati account.
For PageRank keep doing your LinkBuilding properly.Always remember that your PageRank depends on the amount of quality inbound or backlink that your website has.
Have patience and keep doing this on a daily basis. The results are bound to improve.

I cant see someone succeeding by just web advertising alone.

I think you really need a campaign directed at the audience you want to attract.

For example Males 18-30 and single (high disposible income)
So advertising in magazines or even other websites that target this group would be a good idea.

    Think outside just search engines.
Look for your target audience and see where they go on the web and advertise with them.

thats what i was thinking, but i don't have all that much to spend, once i get a bit of profit i'll have more, i have about £100 ($200) maybe more if i really push it. i personally think that CPA would benefit me best. i'll research my target audience, and if anyone could tell me where a good place to do that would also be nice, and any more help :)

    thanks so far!

I have a some comments that aren't targeted at SEO or advertising, but are targeted at your site.

The images on your site have to be of high quality. As a consumer, I wouldn't want to buy a camera from a site when it's picture looks distorted.

Remember, you're not just trying to make money from adsense or affiliate programs.. you actually want people to buy things from you. Your site therefore has to look extremely professional and preferably sleek and up-to-date.. You're probably selling the latest electronics.. you want your site looking the same - high tech and up-to-date.

You need to get much nicer & high detail pictures and work on the design of your site.. Also your banner and logo - they don't go with the feel of an electronics site.

Visit other electronics sites such as cnet and get ideas from them.

BTW, I just noticed that the slogan on your banner says "bagain prices" instead of "bargain prices"...

Another thing is that your "add to cart" button doesn't work.. That isn't a good thing

I could go on but I think you got the idea...

Anyway, This criticism is only my 2 cents (ok, maybe 200 cents...) and it was not meant to hurt or bash you in any way, but to help you reach your goal sooner..

hey thats great info! ;) wouldn't have spotted them myself, thats not a bash or anything (some pretty silly mistakes though) but if you got anymore constructrive critasism i'd much love to hear it!

well the pictures is a catch 22.. as in thet are the only pictures i can get hold of right now, if i could get better pics i would :(

i'll make a list of problems to sort right now! also, while im on here i'll post a thread in the sites forums

    thanks man!

that's one hell of a market to enter, you better target very isolated/deep keywords.

yeah, i have, i've used a KEI calculator to find the best keywords. and there are some very good unused keywords.
thats mainly the reason for CPA, because i know it is a huge market!

and i've got a long list of corrections too! that will keep me nice and busy! on top of all my main SEO

I have to agree with edcpartners. You really need to go through your site with a fine tooth comb. -getting traffic is alot easier than converting to a sale. And your site has many small inconveniences and typos that will lose the visitors confidence and hence lose the sale. I would spend a couple days going through the different products, viewing images, making purchases, viewing in different browsers and make the site work flawlessly. If you can, get a couple friends to go through and look for bugs and give you their opinions - tell them to be brutally honest.

Sorry for the late reply. I just saw this post. One thing that you should not be doing is have google adsense on your site. If you want to look like a legitimate retailer, then you need to get rid of those ads. Most people know what google ads are now a days, so it will lessen your rep. I have found that oscommerce is not the most ideal shopping cart provider for such sites because of the holes that hackers know of in order to break it. I have seen it happen more times than I can count.

    Overdrive, you are right.
It is better you try some low competetive keyword phrases then slowly slowly move on to higher
