I've been sort of out of the AdWords game (just a few profitable campaigns sputtering along without much interaction from me recently) but now I want to get back into AdWords because .. well it seems like a good idea to increase the amount of income streams I have instead of just relying on SEO for all my traffic/money. Anyway, my point is I'm looking for a good AdWords guide (not BS so please don't post affiliate links) ... I've just read Adwords Confessions which did have a few good points I didn't know about (along with a lot of fluff) but it seemed a bit outdated as well... and didn't have much info on two things I'm really interested in trying more aggressively - content campaigns and placement campaigns. Which guide has a lot of solid updated information and particularly about those 2 areas? Thanks for any advice.
There aren't any content guides because most people still think it's a good idea to turn content off. (Which is complete rubbish btw...)
Yeah... I've heard that some people do really well with content and site placement but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. I suppose it's like anything else - probably takes a lot of testing ... trial & error... but I'd like to try and find at least some sort of road map so I don't waste too much time/money.
Hello, I'm not sure if I can help with content since I don't really like it at all. But here are a few PPC blogs I've found REALLY helpful... www.ppchero.com www.searchengineland.com http://semphonic.blogs.com/semangel/ There are loads more. Of course there is the Adwords Learning Centre, these forums and the official Google Adwords blog.
I do a bit of web design and also onsite IT work. What I do to get stuff higher on the Google search engine (which is effectivly what you want to do) is to use google at each clients place (therefore a different IP address) and use google to find the site and then keep clicking on it from each machine. It actually works.... tonnes cheaper too
Not a big fan of Perry - a lot of the things in his guide are very out of date or contradictory. I wrote this last year, if it's of any use (it's free to read)... http://www.epiphanysolutions.co.uk/google-adwords/ It doesn't cover the Content Network in a lot of detail, but it goes through search thoroughly...
i have found that most guides are out dated material, you will probably learn more in these forums than in any guide published by these so called "gurus" Content is a very tricky market, one that I have been learning to master for the past 3 months, I may publish a guide on it in the near future, but for now if you have any questions about content go ahead and shoot me a PM
The content network works great, especially after all the improvements Google made to it in 2007. I see a lot people failing when they try the content network because they treat it like it's search, which it's not. A person viewing in ad within content is completely different than a person viewing an ad that's based on a query they entered. Content and search are so different I'm surprised Google even let's people have a single ad/campaign that runs on both at the same time. They get paid though so I suppose I can't blame them.
I've heard rumors of this working as well.. BUT.. #1 I'm assuming you mean SEO/natural rankings... I'm talking about PPC... Obviously if you click on your own PPC ads you'll be wasting money. Plus in specific I'm asking about content and placement PPC ads which are something else entirely. #2 It seems like this (if it really works) would only make much of a dent in uncompetitive markets. #3 It seems like if people find out that this works that it will quickly become gamed to death and they'll no longer take it into consideration. That being said... I'll probably give it a go re: SEO Thanks for the tip.
Lastbutnotleast Adwords Miracle and Beating Adwords were written in 2007. I agree about Perry Marshall's guide...It's too old. It was written, I think, in 2005. Beating Adwords is written by creators of Wealthy Affiliate, if you didn't know

Mind Valley Labs's - adwordssystemexposed.com is pretty good. Very clear and much better than most (apart from Perry M) It also has a seperate guide on Yahoo!
