I'm looking into buying a new laptop, one that has a 17 inch screen and lots of power. I know Sony has one of the best screen's out there, but they are expensive and use compenents that are weak in performance. Anyone have experience with Alien Computers?
I used to purchase for our Office in L.A. and I had the best luck with DELL's (6 of them)... The 2-Sony Viao's we had where nothing but pains in the butt all the time...
I never had one problem with any of the DELL Laptops we got for the office, out of the 25+ Towers I got we had trouble with one and DELL fixed it...
You're all wrong. Get a Powerbook or MacBook Pro! Looks the bollocks, fast as F1, fantastic screen... Oh yeah, and pretty expensive.
My new MacBook Pro should arrive this week. I can't wait to compare it to the Compaq laptop I use at the office. You're right -- expensive! But I've loved every Mac I ever used. A close relative of mine works at Intel and is a PC user himself. But he says that "the word" on the new Intel-based Mac laptops is very positive.
IBM is the best because its the most easy to work on sony are a pain in the neck to work on. Macs are a pain in the neck to work on as well almost as bad as a sony. I agree with you SumitBahl i have worked on alot of them and everything is easy to replace and upgrade.
I would say Lenovo are the best, I got a really cheap T42 last year and you can tell IBM's designers have perfected it over the years (the keyboard LED for example). Now that Lenovo are in full control you can expect them to become more aesthetically appealing in the future. Used to have a Sony Viao a few years ago, didn't like it, was noisy and very hot but this may have changed. Dell are OK but lack the refinement of their competitors, even the cheaper ones.
have a acer, wlan has very good reception (compared to others i know), cant complain much but i found the keyboard on my first acer much better. if i had enought money i would go for an ibm, i just need a keybord light sometimes (this usb-lights you get for 3$ at ebay really suck if you have the usb-ports at the right side).
I like the Apple laptops myself. As far as them being more expensive, I really don't think that's the case when you start comparing similar offerings. A Dell laptop that is similarly equiped is $490 cheaper than the MacBook Pro. But... you get a 14" screen instead of 15.4", you get a crappy integrated graphics chip (the Mac comes with a Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory), you don't get a dual core CPU (that's a biggie IMO), etc
Toshibas last forever but you will pay a premium price for a highend one. I've heard good stuff about IBM notebooks. Dell gives you fast components built in a crappy enclosure for a cheap price.
I would stand up for Dell. Unfortunately, once my Studio 15's CPU Fan blew up, and kudos to the awesome service it was replaced the next working day!
