what are the qualities ( requirement ) of a seo friendly directories. and how can we check that ( please help in somewhat detail as i am a newbie) one more question: how can i check whether my site is already listed in a particular directory. is there any tool or any direct way by which i can do it
Check whether the links are passing through a redirect or if they link straight to your site. Most have a search feature if you want to check whether you are listed.
Right click your link and go to properties. If it shows only your url than it's search engine friendly
I would check for direct links AND check to see if its pages are SEO friendly (are there any question marks?) chad
You can check to see if the sites listed within the directory are showing the directory as a backlink.
guys, do you mean that to determine if the directory is search engine friendly... it's directory must have a good file structure and it has no follow tags? dudes, im don't get the last part from http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=72105&highlight=search+engine+friendly+directory. the mod rewrite thing... thanks in advance!
Ok, let me explain what I meant in the post you linked to: Some search engines can have a difficult time indexing links that include strange characters such as "&" and "?" etc. By using mod rewrite, you can change those funky links like http://www.directory.com/cat.php?id=234 to something easier for the search engine to handle, like http://www.directory.com/Computers/Internet/Forums. If your not sure exactly what mod rewrite is or how it works, just google for "mod rewrite."
