Hmmm, I just read this before starting to walk to 'Barclays'.

How did you pay your previous one in, with the options being Collection, Deferred or Negotiation?

As far as I know Deferred clears the quickest (if your account is in good standing) whilst negotiation can take ages.

I will ask at the Bank whilst I'm there but I live near a small Branch with not the most knowledgeable of staff. I'll post back here my findings.

I asked in the Branch and was told 'It could be 3 days but it will be less than 10' so none the wiser really.

For once Barclays has impressed me. I paid 2 US cheques in yesterday (29/12/04) and they are now showing in my business acoount as cleared (30/12/04). Funny thing is UK cheques take longer than that. Banks, go figure!

Charge was 9 UKP for 2 cheques (as they were in USD that should probably be 'checks' :) )
