Statistically Google has ~77% against Yahoo with under 20% share on the Search Engines market, with my site it's around ~85% Google against Yahoo ~10%, still Alexa lists Yahoo as the most visited site on the Internet and it must be many additional services Yahoo offers such as Yahoo!Sports. Sports draw much public attention. Why Google hasn't started its own Sports section as well?
I'd be tempted to suggest for me to start their sports section so I should better skip it It comes interesting that Google holds 80% share of the Search Engine market, despite such huge potential, it's Yahoo ranked as Alexa's top visited web-site on the Internet, other than Yahoo apparently offering more appealing services to visitors, Google doesn't offer some of those services at all.
Page is a bright example why Yahoo!Sports must be 100 times more visited than Google's page dedicated to sports that looks like a common rss reader. Yahoo!Sports offer expert analyses on different sports, often they can be read in various sports magazines, daily newspapers, heard on TVs world wide with aknowledgment to Yahoo!Sports, a great publicity for Yahoo as a company.
I think, Google doesn´t have any sport category because the Google employee are sitting on the chair and making new software and gadgets, then they don´t have any time for sport and exercise.
Google would good use additional traffic from services other than SE, now that they dropped down to #3 according to Alexa's rankings.
They don't have much content on their homepage cuz searchers don't want it, and they can make more money from search ads than content page ads.
