Does register domain for a long period help your site in Google?

I have heard that register domain for a long years term could help your site gain some trust by Google. Does it help your site really? Is it just a rumor spread like a plaque from registrar to get a bigger money from webmasters? What do you guy think? In my opinion, it may have somewhat effect bot not much as many people said.

Sxperm, I have no relevant experience since I usually register my domains only for one year and lengthen it when it will expire sonn, but I suppose that it does influance Google's trust. Some moths ago I verified a domain at Google Webmaster Central and next day the rankings were greatly imroved hence I belive that if the owner count as a trust factor, the length of the registration count as well.

I have heard this to, but I am unaware as to the truth on this matter. I guess in a way it does make sense, but it just doesn't make sense to me as to why?

Some SEO experts think that it helps a little, but I don't think anyone knows for sure. But if you expect to keep the site for a long time anyway, you might consider extending the registration time just in case it does help.

Another thing some experts say is that Google distrusts sites that are less than one year old and whose registrations are due to expire at the end of the first year, because a lot of spam sites only last for one year and then disappear. So it might be best to start a new site with at least a two-year registration.

In our research, Google does pay attention to this and the facts point to the fact that they do take this into consideration. However, the weight by this fact alone is so minute that most people would probably never see the difference in their lifetime. However, when you're trying to stay on top of your competition, every little bit helps, right?

I always thought it did. You would think that age plays some sort of a factor into the search algorithm and also with building trust?

Domain age does, but not the term for which it's registered(like how many years you bought it for).
This went away with meta keywords. If there's any of it left at all, it's an incredibly tiny amount.

it does indeed help due to the algorith filtering out domains that are registered for 1 year and used exclusively for ppc purposes...

...a site used for PPC purposes wouldn't rank in the first place, so why would they bother filtering it out? You do realize that PPC programs are mostly JS/disallowed by robots.txt, right? So the links don't register with the SEs?
That is just wrong.

Old domains are ranked and indexed better, but this is only part of all criterias.
Also very important are backlinks and content - without this just age of domain won't help you.

because as there are many scaming sites registered for short time

thanks
