Google is crying and complaining about Micro/Yahoo.

Yup. Google is already crying afoul about the Microsofts intentions of buying Yahoo. Google is saying that if Microsoft does buy Yahoo that it is going against a lot of Anti Trust suit issues. And goes against open competition.

I say so what. Really, what is it to Google anyways. They - Google, are the top SE of the world right? They are so great and wonderful to the webmaster community and are so user friendly right? Their earnings have been remarkable. Their investments are beneficial to the company. Users prefer them and traffic to them is 3 fold vs the other SE's right?

So why does it really matter to Google. Will the buyout make Google have to work better at being #1? Or do they really think they have something to lose? Or can I say jealous Google that Microsoft is getting to Yahoo first.

http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/080203/yahoo...ft_google.html

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc (NasdaqGS:GOOG - News) fired back on Sunday at Microsoft Corp's (NasdaqGS:MSFT - News) $44.6 billion bid to acquire Yahoo Inc (NasdaqGS:YHOO - News), accusing Microsoft of seeking to extend its computer software monopoly deeper into the Internet realm.

David Drummond, a Google senior vice president and its chief legal officer, said in a blog post that the combination of Microsoft and Yahoo could undermine the open competition that has fueled more than a decade of Web innovation.

"Between them, the two companies operate the two most heavily trafficked portals on the Internet," Drummond wrote in a blog post to be published at http://googleblog.blogspot.com.

"Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors' email, IM, and Web-based services?" he asked rhetorically, noting that Microsoft has a history of using its monopoly positions to dominate newer, adjacent markets.

The Google executive called on policymakers around the world to challenge the merger. In making its case for the deal on Friday, Microsoft executives said Google -- not Microsoft -- was the one company antitrust regulators were likely to bar from buying Yahoo based on Google's dominance in Web search.

I think Google are being a bit of a big baby. I personally think it would be nice if Microsoft did get Yahoo and became a super search engine to compete with Google.

If Google are really the best search engine in the world they will easily be able to beat them.

I really want to see how this will turnout

This is probably in retaliation of Microsoft's objection to Google buying doubleClick. A bit of tit-for-tat, I guess.

yeah. But what is doubleclick(advertising) really to Yahoo(a SE). Really, apples and oranges. Big difference. And which one would be more of a profitable venture. I would say Yahoo really.

This will be a big problem on the other companies like google. Actually the buy out plan is against the law. Micro have many cases abusing the anti trust law and still they make another crime like that...

Google has to protect their interests, even if they don't really have anything to worry about.. Besides, they have to get their money's worth for the army of lawyers they have on staff, right?

Google might lose an extra million searches a month to the outcome of Microsoft/Yahoo. In broader terms, that'll be the equivalent of one SEO guy sitting at home

I don't think you can compare Google to Yahoo. Yes they both do search, albeit one much better than the other, but Google is arguing based on the fact that Yahoo.com and MSN.com are the two most popular portals on the Internet. Google.com is not a portal, just a search box.

There will surely be anti-trust scrutiny here because Microsoft is involved.

don't worry, MS will manage to make Yahoo search as awful as Live Search, so in the end they will do Google a big favor instead

Well when i first heard the news, i couldnt stop thinking about the Joint venture between Microsoft and Yahoo. I am really looking forward to someone stepping up to Google. Very tired of them trying to monopolize everything.

It's not filled with garbage if you know how to add/remove "gadgets"
So yeah.. you can just add all the stuff you want, and remove the stuff you don't want.

Yes Yahoo! gets some competitive search results but they are not really 1:1 comptitors.
It's like selling the exactly the same water in same sized bottle, one for 1$ and other for 7$. They are not competiting... Low priced bottle aims the middle and lower class but the bottle which has the higher price aims upper class and gives a higher value although, the quality and size of the water bottle is the same.

I also hope for this but I think it won't happen. Have you seen what happened to the crap MSN or Live search? Microsoft knows nothing about search engine and they are just way too far from Google. If Microsoft buy Yahoo, I think the algorithm will be worse, not better. How could Micro-Yahoo beat Google if they are still dumb? The winner is always the one who can make better things. From experience, Microsoft were the loser, and they will remain the loser unless they can make something better than Google.

If Yahoo agrees to the deal with Microsoft, it will be a shotgun marriage, but it will be Google holding the shotgun.
