I'm thinking to buy domain and hosting,i used one.com but they have problem when it is more than +10.000 unique visitors daily (and i can't put youtube code for videos), so i want to buy a new one, either hostgator or godaddy.I'll buy shared hosting and would like to learn which one you would choose!

I have been using HostGator since yesterday and it is fine so far. :)
Take my Image hosting site and my Arcade site for example of performane and speed.
PM me if you want me to throw you an affiliate link if you have not signed up yet. ;)

Buy your domains from GoDaddy, get your hosting elsewhere. HostGator is decent, but with 10,000 uniques daily I might suggest going with a VPS, as HostGator is an overseller just like the rest, and they do have ways to limit you... Definitely check out the TOS before you sign up, because if they suspend your site for overage or violating the TOS, then they plaster advertisements all over your suspended homepage.

What will happen if you get suspended from HostGator or GoDaddy hosting? Do you get a refund if you have prepaid for like 6 months forward?

I'm sure they will give you a pro-rata refund, but you should be more worried about your reputation/loss of traffic of your website. Check the TOS, I believe host gator will only refund you for the initial 45 days, after that you're on your own.

From what I read everywhere HostGator is better than GoDaddy (slow etc).

Could give us a try! Were offering 77% off, just use the coupon DPDISCOUNT.

I've heard that Godaddy hosting is not good. Hostgator should be fine (depending on how much bandwidth do you need).

I have contacted them via the support, and no - I am not able to refund if I violade the TOS, no matter how much I prepaid. That is unethical if you ask me, I paid for 6 months, so I should be very careful on the TOS, so I don't lose thes ~$50.

I have been using godaddy for a while now, and have never had reasons to complaint. They even have a fast 27/7 support line.

But as everybody else says, hostgator is also good, and I have heard people having trouble with godaddy.

(only problem I had with godaddy was some security restrictions, technical problems with programming that I had to solve myself.)

    GoDaddy for domains
    Hostgator for hosting

    This is the best combination

I have been suspended from HostGator for hosting an image hosting site. Although I have contacted their life support and asked if it would be fine if I do everything to disable hotlinking to avoid unnecessary server load (since then this site becomes no different from any other normal site). The person said that it would be fine then, and look now - 2 days later I am suspended hoping to get my refund for the pre-paid 6 months (~$40-$50). That is very unserious business manner from their side if you ask me. First they say that it is ok, then they say it's not and suspend my account, taking my money (I have used their service for only a few days). Lesson learned - don't pay in advance for anything unless you have been using it for long time and you are sure you could risk.

PS: I am considering using DreamHost. What have been your experience with them? Are they reliable? Can I start an image hosting or arcade site on their servers?

GoDadda locks down their PHP settings. I tried to use several script there that died. I went to HostGator and they are much better. They do ban some types of sites, so check around. I know proxies are not allowed.

HostGator provides $9.94 off for the first month of all first time customers, which basicly makes the "Baby" plan cost just 1 cent after the discount.
Here are the coupons that give this discount:
    • jury
    • iceishot
    • hgc25
    • Hostcritique
