You may have noticed AGX.COM listed for sale in the domains section. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=680181 Well I am the real owner of this domain, not the person who posted the message. I had listed AGX.COM for sale on both SitePoint and DNForum, which is probably where this fraudster saw the name, and decided to list it here on DigitalPoint http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/auction/19570 http://www.dnforum.com/f5/agx-com-fast-deal-big-players-thread-265469.html If possible I'd really like to find the physical street address and contact details of the person who posted this fake ad, so that I can get the police involved in a fraud investigation. However it seems the user account that posted the fake advert was keylogged/hijacked so it might be in vain http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=6330942#post6330942 It's not easy tracking down scammers from just an IP address. I run a few websites that accept credit cards, and even when we have a fraud order and I supply Visa/Mastercard with the - IP address - time of the order - delivery address of the goods (that a fraudster was using) They still tell me they can't trace it, even in the USA. Sad really. It would be great if ISP's cooperated more with fraud investigations. However I suspect the real reason is Visa/MasterCard make a lot more money by charging me (the merchant) for accepting a fraudulent card order in the first place (in my case they sting me with AUD$25 penalty per incident) plus they don't have to spend any money on investigators (saving more money). </rant> I guess the moral of the story is, when buying domains from someone you don't know, always use escrow.com or something equivalent.
Glad I helped you out on this one MMerlin. We became suspicious after the poster 'RichUser' insisted that payment had to be made via Moneybookers and not Escrow as we were initially insisting upon. Thankfully the Whois check brought up your company details in Australia and I was able to make a telephone call to you from the UK asking for clarification on the availability of the domain name, of course you replied in the negative. Again, this individual, RichUser we want to point out most obviously, is a complete scammer, who wouldn't think twice to take your money from you by any means possible. Please do not conduct name deals with him online here at DP, for your own good we are stating this. This could so easily have turned out differently if we were not more aware of some of the domain scammers tactics. Many thanks. Mark Magawr
Heaven only knows Merlin why a mod removed my warning to other domainers here with the other thread, but there you go. Typical of them to move things I guess to sections where the warning given, will fall on deaf ears to people not even associated with domaining, they often amaze me here, swear they'd call a car a boat and vice versa, always seem to do the exact opposite of that which is required of their role. Oh well. Have a great day mate. Mark Magawr Now in the General Chat for some unfathomable reason: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=680358
Well I'm really surprised why the mods arent banning the user. Had it been someone faking a sale with 10-15 posts the mods act differently. I do not buy the keylogger theory at all. Thanks magawr for saving the day...
