This porn site is displaying ads http://*ww.free-toplist.biz/listen/636/index.php Can it be removed? Is there a place we can report these type of sites yet other than posting? Thanks
What's wrong with the site displaying the ads. So long as you aren't displaying ads for it, it should be fine.
So it is only displaying ads on that site, not displaying ads TO that site in the COOP? How do we know this is the case?
Because all ads are reviewed before they go into circulation. How do you work that out? Do you expect everyone who visits your site to do a link: check on it?
I thought the No porn, pharmacuetical rule was also for sites displaying ads. (and these were checked when they signed up) SE- no most people wouldn't do that but it is reasonable to ask that your advertisement not be shown on a porn site. 1 link out of 1000's may be acceptable but what if more and more start joining. Do you want a good percentage of your links from these type of sites?
I couldn't care less where my links are coming from - that's why I joined a COOP. I understand your situation guys, but seriously - as long as you aren't displaying ads for that site, I really wouldn't worry about it too much.
Yeah, what if that webmaster decided to put up a 'real' link to your website. Are you going to complain as well? It's the nature of the internet, people can link to whoever they want. But they can't force you to link to them, that's why you may complaint if ads show up to them, not from them.
If a porn site put up a "real" link and I knew about it, then yes I would ask them to take it off. Anyone that runs a family oriented business would do the same. Please note though, this isn't beyond our control. From Shawns recent posts, he is trying to make this as legitimate as an AD network as possible. From a strictly SEO standpoint, it doesn't matter but if you are trying to attract a range of quality sites to the network, it helps to know they won't be advertising on Porn sites by joining. If the amount of porn sites reaches a huge level, those concerned with their image may start pulling out. Like I have said before, I understand your point from an SEO standpoint but for the sake of longevity, the netowrk needs to adapt (which Shawn is actively doing with categorys, languages and not allowing running of multiple networks).
If the network terms are being changed so you cannot display ads on a page with multiple ad network ads, to maintain the quality, then surely ads being run on dodgy porn sites is going to do the same thing? Drop the quality? It all makes it seem a bit seedy
Someone can email them if they want to ask them to remove them, but the problem with any sort of links on the Internet, is you can't control if people link to you or not. While ads for porn (or other disallowed types) aren't let into the network, there really isn't a way to prevent people from linking to you (with the co-op or without) unfortunately.
I understand without the coop, but arent the accounts screened when they are setup? or is it just the ads that are screened. If you add all the volunteer editors that you have talked about, is it possible to add the url that is signed up with to the validation process. I don't think this is a big problem know but could become more and more of an issue as popularity of the network continues to grow.
That would be virtually impossible as well because that site, for example, is a directory and might have 99% perfectly fine pages but only a dozen dodgy ones. I wouldn't ask of any of those volunteers to dig through all URLs of a domain to spot something unwanted...
Once I get some "real" TOS up for the ad network, we will be able to disallow porn, gambling, etc. sites from showing ads. Well, not TECHNICALLY, but if someone reports them, their weight would go to zero, so hopefully that will be enough incentive to take them down.
I really hope so, I have just joined and my site is all about family friendly shareware, porn links by whatever association I need like a hole in the head. jema
