Submit the site in right subcategory with keywords in Title and Description.
    Have a look on length.

..Very very easy to submit to DMOZ just as any other directories, just chose the best subcategory & click submit!! The difficult part is actually to get listed, don't know why the editors take so much time to approve and so many websites are not accepted in the directory

Yesterday I went through around 30 sites waiting to be reviewed, all of them were suggested to the totally wrong categories, since the submitters were too lazy to read the category guidelines. So I had to spend the time moving them to other categories where they will have to wait for other editors. Then there was another one not in English that had already been submitted last week, and I had already moved it to the non-English category. These are both time wasters for editors, and cause delays for those sites' reviews.

By the time I had done the above, there was only time to review one site, which I approved to be listed again in a third category (yes - sometimes sites are valid in more than one category)

It should not take 45 minutes or more to get one site reviewed,

What takes so much time in the part of the directory I edit, besides moving suggested sites to the correct cat, is weeding out spammers, affiliate doorways and mirror sites. Also, cleaning up dead and hijacked sites eats away at time I could be listing sites. So thank all those who try to get multiple listings by breaking the ODP guidelines for most of the delays. ;)

Just find the most suitable catagory and submit your site. Remember to follow their guidelines carefully.

    Take a look at here.

    to the editors..
Ok let say I submitted a website to the best category and has not been listed after 4-5 months, do I still have a chance of being listed after some more time? Will my website be in a waiting list or something or I should submit the website again?

And don't forget to get the Paypal address of the editor in charge of the category so you can send him a "tip" for being efficient in listing your site.

We're having 2 DMOZ editors replying here "accountability" & "jjwill" am asking these questions to get an idea of what to expect from the submission to DMOZ, listed or not listed

In this case you can resubmit your website again. But, this be little careful double check if you have followed the guidelines carefully.

The next option is just not following the good avice from peter :D

BTW I am not an DMOZ editor

During 2005, I have listed sites that were suggested in 2001. So four or five months isn't that overly long - if the site is a listable site, once it's reviewed and described by an editor who can list it, it will be listed.

It can take anywhere from 10 min to 3 years to get listed. There are many verying factors i.e.
    - how big the cat is
    - how many suggested sites sitting in unreviewed
    - if an editor feels like looking at the unreviewed pool at any given time
    - how much junk is in the unreviewed pool
    - how much cleanup is needed for the listed sites
    - and so on

Like Imocr said, 5 months is not that long. Some people will want to resubmit but doing so will overwright the previous submission and will put you further down the list if the editor reviews according to date.

I've submitted three times in the last two years. I guess that is just hurting my chances. Good to know. I guess I'll just have to wait some more.

Correct. Not only that, if you continue to submit, an editor may view it as spamming the directory.

So how did some one submitted 35 times and all submission got listed and it was not spam?

Before you say that editor added those pages by finding it, I must mention that there is no menu choices in that site to find those pages, so either it was submitted or the editor is the owner and knows where those pages are. ;)

    mentioned above:
as far as the Title goes.
Please don't use keywords for your title, that could also make the weight longer (it comes of as spammy), use the web sites name as the title.
    example:
    Good:
    Eddies Insurance Co.
    Bad:
    Car, Auto and Life Insurance

Because it doesn't solve any problem. The problem is not with this listing or many like it, the problems is with faulty organization and procedures that brings such disgrace to DMOZ.
The real change in organization and procedures is only possible with enlightenment of majority of editors and putting pressures on power structure in DMOZ. Unfortunately such open and honest discussions are not permitted in the forum or RZ.
