Depends, if you have an external link to your subdomain url on your main domain when you create your sitemap it will index those pages as well, if you don't you'll need to create a seperate sitemap and submit it to Google.

you should resubmit your subdomain to search engines.
but as for a sitemap on the subdomain, you will need to add the subdomain as a new domain to get the sitemap properly accepted in google webmasters (at least i had to anyways)

If you have good internal link structure with your sub domain & all sub domain page frequently crawled than no need to add sitemap. If you want to add sitemap for your sub domain then you must ad separate sitemap than your main domain. Add sub domain as new domain and add verification key not to root level but in sub domain folder.Other wise google doesn't verify.

I was told by a reputable SEO source to NEVER submit your stuff to Google. You should let Google find you instead. This is something I've seen again and again in my research. I put up a site this week and was indexed within 24 hours without submitting. I'm not sure why it's better to do it this way, something to do with the fact that it looks better in the eyes of Google, but you should check it out.

@affilaitesheree You can never say what Google do and don't like. Moreover, what they prefer changes day-in, day-out.

Well thats not always a good option. Its mere luck that some people gets their pages crawled so quickly. I had to wait for 6 months for google to properly index my pages on my Domain. But when I created my subdomains, I submitted sitemaps separately for each one and could see that google indexed them quickly.

Submit sub domains also like Domains. You will get all options as for a Domain in Google webmaster tools.
