AdWords is Google's ad-selling system, where advertisers pay money to advertise on Google, or on individual websites. You need an AdWords account for unlimited Google Analytics so, if you eventually want to advertise for your website, you can jump right in. However, you do not need an AdWords account if you have less than five million monthly page views, just a simple Google/Gmail account.
AdSense is Google's ad-placing program. It is the program that puts ads on your website. It has nothing to do with Google Analytics, and using Google Analytics has nothing to do with putting ads on your site.

Heres a link to an ebook . But try searching forums and reading the related topics, that would help you more rather than an eBook.

sumitbahl's explanation is pretty good. To break things down a bit:

Adwords is used to bring traffic to your site. You pay every time somebody clicks on one of your ads, and is brought to your site. Your ad might be displayed in google searches, or on various websites. Adwords is popular for companies that sell products or services. They pay a little for an interested click to their site in hopes of making a sale.

Adsense is used to generate profit from your website by displaying ads. You display ads, and every time somebody visiting your site clicks on an ad, you get paid for it. Adsense is popular with bloggers, informational sites, and many other sites that don't generate a profit from their own sales (and even a few that do).

Both Adwords and Adsense use targetted advertising. Someone who sells boats, and uses an Adwords campaign will have their ad show up when people search google for boat-related information, and on boat-related sites. On the other hand, someone who is running Adsense ads on a website about boating might have one of these ads show up.

Google acts as the middleman in all of this. In the above example, the person running Adwords pays Google when the boating ad is clicked on. Google then pays the person running Adsense, after taking their own cut of the profits.

As far as your question about using them to fetch revenue, it all depends on what sort of site you have. If you sell something on your site, or have joined affiliate programs where you make commissions on sales, there is a good chance you would be looking at Adwords. On the other hand, if you have a blog, or some sort of informational site, and don't generate any revenue from it, you will almost certainly be looking at Adsense.

Joel Comm has a pretty good eBook on AdSense - you can get more info at www.adsense-secrets.com. I read this eBook when I was just starting out, and it helped me to improve my CTR immensely. :)
