Interesting Google story from my daughter last night..

Hi all,

I got a good chuckle out of this last night from my 11 year old. Paraphrased of course.

Daughter says, "So dad I was working on my architecture project and presentation last night for social studies. I ended up using Yahoo to find my answers instead of Google."

Dad says, "Oh? Why is that?"

Daughter says, "I tried Google first and all I was finding was amazon site trying to sell me books on architecture."

Dad says, "So then you tried Yahoo?"

Daughter says, "Yes. I was able to find 2 sites on the first page of Yahoo last night that helped me a lot on my project!"

Dad says, "You couldn't find anything on Google?"

Daughter says, "No. Not on the first page. I gave up."

Dad says, "What words did you use in your search?"

Daughter says, "I don't remember. I was trying to find different blue prints and general architecture information."

Dad says, "Well that is why there is more then one search engine, good for you trying more then just one!"

hahah, yep, and I use MSN whenever I'm searching for a subject that is very recent, not Google that only shows top sites from 2003 and before

I dunno...I do know that I'm 19 and almost always use Yahoo in preference to Google.

Hehe. Thanks. It's amazing how well kids work with computers now.

On the flip side, my wife really dislikes yahoo, thinks google gives best answers (results) but uses MSN most of the time because she likes their home page the best.

Actually I usually probe them for WHY they pick one. As a self-taught SEO guy and fly-by-night website owner (I have a "normal" day job as a software engineer) I tend to want to know the HOWS WHYS WHATS.

Funny how the simplest usability issues grab people.

If it weren't for the branding, Google would have been nothing more than a high tech flashin the pan.

But then, it's one BIG pan. The most attractive thing about Google is their innovation with other products.

That story reminds me of something my 8 y/o daugther said the other day. She was searching for something online while talking to her friend on the phone and I overheard her say to her friend, "Google is waaaaay better than yahoo for finding stuff."

Is it just me or are kids growing up way to fast these days?
