SEO friendly directories

What's the quickest and easiest way (as close to instant as possible) to make sure they are definetely seo friendly?

seo friendly is thru the url you dont need to look at the code..

 

SEO friendly URLs do not contain question marks and equal signs. They are plain, directory path->file style URLs. They may also be called user friendly URLs.

Most directories offer the ability to show SEO friendly URLs. But, the default behaviour of many seems to be non-friendly. You will see in the documentation and/or site explanation whether or not they offer SEO friendly URLs.

Most seem to display SEO friendly URLs but use the .htaccess file to rewrite them back in SEO unfriendly ways. It is possible to make these transformations in the program, but few, if any, programmers implement this idea.

clancey, I'm sorry but I'm not sure I get how to check that they actually are seo/user friendly from what you said. Could you make it a little more straightforward for me, assuming it's possible?

You see, I want to list seo friendly directories but don't want to rely on what they say about being seo friendly. At the same time I would like to check that in the easiest way to make the procedure quicker.

Maybe it's not that easy after all...

Basically if you see a "?" anywhere in the URL it's not SEO friendly.

Basically, what you have to look for is directories in the format:
www.directorydomain.com/Category/Subcategory

These are the most common SEO friendly directory format.

What you dont want are directories in the format:
- www.directorydomain.com/index.php?id=xx&cat=94
- www.directorydomain.com/index.cgi?id=34&link=475
(or anything close to that!)

 

That pretty much sums it up, if the URL is Alphanumeric, hyphens, underscores and slashes (- _ / ) , it is SEO friendly. Any other characters and it is not.

I think that in terms of traffic, the most productive directories are targeted ones that focus on one main category and the links are actually useful.

Most directories are just means of getting backlinks.

I think that the best kind of directory is one that offers coupons, deals and discounts (this way the people actually come back for more deals and might refer others)

So, i think that shopping directories are the best in terms of traffic (real normal surfers, not just SEO companies trying to get links)

If a directory jumps link don't pass PR, it is not SEO friendly, too.

 

I think the key is what happens on mouseover. When you hover on a link and it says directory/cgi-bin... then it is not SEO friendly. Same thing with directories that count outgoing clicks.

The URLs are not important at all IMO. See a webdirectory with pages like http://www.travelplanidea.com/index.php?action=displaycat&catid=3 can still be SEO friendly if its apges are indexed by the search engines.

there's nice plugin for firefox...if you use firefox just google nofollow plug in and install it. the plugin lets you highlight all nofollow links on any web page.
