Just to let you know that the phpLynx team are considering releasing at least some of its phpLynx directory script code to the coders of the directory world who are looking at adding their own personal touch to their directory. Be sure to visit our forum on a regular basis to keep an eye on developments relating to this. A belated Happy new year to everyone.
Happy new year to you too. IMO, a free script (or even paid) can only advance to the next level and become popular when you allow developers to change and edit it to thier likening.
Not really, Microsoft, Google, and the rest are all closed source but that doesn't prevent them from moving on. Our in-house programmers are more than up to the task of adding things which is just what they're doing for the next release but I do see your point regarding allowing access to skilled developers from the outside world with fresh ideas to be able to have creative licence to put thier skills to work. Let's see how much interest there is, if any, for us to release the code, it would certainly something I'm seriously considering. @Smub; sorry about that, posted just as you did. Yes I do agree that even though we have many minds working for the phpLynx script we don't hold the monopoly on creative ideas, though we do try out best. I hope we do go ahead and release, that way good programmers can have fun and everyone benefits.
