What are your experiences using adwords... effective? I plan on starting around a $500 campaign in the next week or two for my barnews site, just to raise awareness of it. what do you think?

It might be difficult in the beginning so prepare to lose some money, if you are new to Adwords.

Read their Help Center, watch the Learning Center if you prefer videos.

Adwords is effective, but you have to know how to use it properly.

I agree I intend...errr expect... to lose money in the beginning, but doesn't it take a lot of visits, linking, and awareness to give any site a descent shot?

Of course, you will have to spend few weeks, maybe a month, before making the campaign to work for you.

    Testing,testing,testing....

Remember to be extremely relevant, that's the key to Adwords success.

If you are pushing a product that will sell... Google is the most targeted traffic you can find in my opinion..
I have done very very very well with it.

I had to take the AdWords Qualification exam at a search marketing agency I worked for. Truth be told, the outcome of the exam has little bearing on one's ability to be effective at ppc strategy/execution. Same with the YSM cert

there are many who had $50 accs, and MANY fell on their a**es and got banned and slapped by google.

My advice: If you're a real new AWcustomer, USE it. If you just use the coupon to use up the coupon, dont use it. It will hurt you sooner or later, especially if you have a real acc running at the same time.

If Adwords helps you to make money online, you should pay for it.

If Google catches you buying accounts/vouchers/gaming the system in general they will ban every account they can trace back to you forever.

    Think about that.

can we clarify something really quick because all this talk of getting slapped and such has me paranoid... If I run a clean campaign and play by the rules do I have anything to worry about?

Not if its clean... Google is the best detective I have heard about. I have heard of Matt Cutts doing site reviews at SES and surprises everyone with the level of detail he has at his fingertips on each site. Not to scare you...they are always tweaking the algo to eliminate spam/deception...they may miss you today, but will find you tomorrow.

If the domain is slapped, doesn't matter if it's new or old campaign, it will remain slapped.

I am not sure, but maybe if you change the content on the website, it might alright in the future.
