I assume that there are other websites covering similar topics as your own site, in which case those competing sites will presumably be chasing the same keyword-traffic as yourself. Try a search in Yahoo, Google etc. for those competing sites and take a look at which other sites are linking in to them - then approach those same sites and attempt to secure similar incoming links to your own site.

You could try article submission. Depending on your site's PR the article you submit to directories may rank higher than yor own site for particular keywords. People read the article, see your link, click it and visit your site.
