Found this interesting... http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/2006/03/04/the-role-of-anti-marketing-design/ How about over $10,000 per day from AdSense? Enjoy...
Interesting read. But what if I can make a site both pleasing to the eyes and loads fast at the same time?
Hey thanks, that's an interesting article! I think it depends on what the focus of the site is. If it's a CSS design blog, I want it to be pretty. Or if it's a page about somewhere I'm thinking of going on vacation, I want it to be pretty. But if it's about dating, the only thing that needs to be pretty are the girls. And he's got those at the top of the front page!
I think his adsense success is more to do with the fact that he has a leaderboard ad wedged in between the main search & navigation tools on his site coupled with the fact that he gets served dating type ads which always do well. I don't think the popularity of his site is due to it being ugly but more to do with it being a free dating site. Perhaps he's just looking to justify his laziness with the design...? . . . . *Does the 100th post dance*
news website usually get tons of hits. but then again, it's kinda hard to update the news constantly. ppl wud just go to professional newspaper sites.
Wow. I want my own dating site! Are there any decent free PHP based dating site scripts out there? After learning about Drupal, phpBB etc... I've realised that nearly everything I want has already been written by someone else! A quick google search suggests this: http://www.azdg.com/scripts.php. Has anyone had any experience with it? fcmisc.
I actually agree with the article. When I go to big name sites that cost 10s of 1000s to build, and flash starts to load, I get really, really annoyed. It's so hard to manuever around them, what with all the animation and all that other "fancy" junk that gets in the way. I'd rather just have some links that takes me to where I want to go.
Yes, flash sites are annoying. Even more annoying are sites with sound on them. My job requires sound to be turned on. But I doubt my colleagues want to hear the irritating sounds that come from badly designed websites. As a result, I automatically leave any site that has any sound on it.
Interesting article. I agree that fast loading, uncluttered sites are good, but I don't think lack of clutter has to mean ugly. Aesthetics are important to me, personally. I couldn't bring myself to deliberately do an ugly site! And the look of a site does matter in certain niches. I agree about flash & sound though - that's usually a big turn off.
Actually, if he gets 10,000,000 page views per day and $10,000, that's $1 CPM, no? What's impressive is not that he makes $10,000 per day, it's the amount of traffic that the site gets! Well, but then the money's nice too.
Yes, there is a corellation between aesthetics and slowness when it comes to the internet. The nicer a site looks the slower it seems to be. Knowing most internet users jump from one site to another in the blink of an eye, the pages need to load fast.
I don't know about this one, i don't think he earns bigtime cause his site looks like crap. He earns good because his site is an easy to use FREE dating site filled with hot looking girls screaming to those ugly desperate men "click me". It's 100% targetted traffic and his traffic numbers are huge! Also as stated in the article his site does good in the search engines. All these facts make him the 10k/day, not his ugly design. I do agree that highly animated sites are horrible to brows.
